operation on a 7 month old kitten

Hi just looking for some advice . My Daughter who lives in Colchester has a 7 month old kitten. It has dislocated its hip. Unfortunately, not had him long and hadn't got round to insuring him. Her Husband works, but she is out of work, so haven't a great deal of spare cash. The op will be £750. She has asked if can pay in installments but the vet has said no. She has rung round various places but can't find anyone else. Does anyone know of a vet who she can pay say £150 for the next 5 months. She cannot bear the thought of losing her lovely kitten

Bit of a treck but - call Calia Hammond Animal Trust, never heard of them refusing to help.

Is the cat in pain now?

They do give out emergency number if you call their normal line.

The closest one to you would be Canning Town, East London:

Thanks for that . I have sent her the link.
  • Is there any way she can make the payments over 3 months? There is legislation about providing credit and some vets stick to this and would not allow a payment plan over 3 months.

Celia Hammond take and rehome to a defined geographical area, I'd be surprised if they would see your daughter.

Its a horrid situation as the cat is young and she hasnt had time to build up a realtionship at a vets which could possibly have meant they would extend the credit period.

Has she asked the price of a leg amputation? Usually much cheaper.

    And get pet insurance NOW!

Amputation is cheaper and more straightforward, and cats do cope well with mobility afterwards, but can be more at risk if in fights with other cats. (Both 3 legged cats here are totally thugs though).

If you have a local cat rescue who does a lot of business with one particular vet, the rescue might be able to persuade them to let you pay the £150 for 5 months.

But we are not talking about reho9ming - we are talking about vet care and I have not heard about CH refusing that based on location.

I mentioned both, taking in for care and rehoming as both are based on location. I have heard of them refuse on location. Usually when the travelling would be too much for the pet, as Colchester to London may be depending on how the OP will travel.

I have dealt with them quite a few times and never heard them refuse vet care - always worth trying.

Friend's cat was run over and the Goddards wanted absolute fortune for an op, cat was tranbsfered to CH and taken care of there. Friend lives in... South End.

Hi her local vet said £1200 for the operation, but she negoitated it down to £750 but they refused to accept installments. She rang round other local vets and all refused installments. I think she would prefer to have the op rather than amputation. She is sorting the insurance now so not in this predicament again. Thanks everyone

    Has she contacted Celia Hammond?

Where is the cat now? He must be in a lot of pain poor thing?
  • Has she tried Vets 4 Pets in Ipswich? Closer than Celia Hammond and their rates are good.
