Have you ever been reprimanded over something so stupid?

What are you talking about? the people all 22 of them who went out to lunch together went for TWO HOURS the person who was meeting a friend was only allowed 1 and because they were not available to cover reception they got the warning, get it? Or a bit too hard for you to understand?

That's harsh, they obviously weren't in with the in crowd it seems.

They were 'in with the crowd' but had plans before the others all decided to go out and the company seemed to think if you didn't go out with them you were not allowed the same bonus of a 2 hr break and they could make you take your lunch at 11.30am.

Plus to go to lunch with them meant spending at least £10 where a sandwich was far cheaper.

My work is similar. They make unreasonable demands at short notice. Take you into the office to discuss how disappointed they are that you're not a team player. They'll make life difficult for a couple of weeks then move onto the next member of staff.

I was once reprimanded by a manager because I held a door open for someone. She said it demeaned the department ...

This is the 3rd time I have seen the inside of that office over silly crap and I've only been their 5 months.

You do know that you have to work for an employer for TWO YEARS before you have protection from unfair dismissal? During that time they can dismiss you for any reason or no reason at all, and you wouldn't have a leg to stand on (provided they don't breach the discrimination laws).

With three informal warnings under your belt in 5 months, you may not make the two year point.
I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.

Its quite an achievement, I think I mentioned the previous one, leaving my computer on at lunchtime. Chances of me being their in 2 years are slim, if I can make it past Xmas I will be happy. As I said before never had so much as a friendly word in the ear before.

For future reference as I'm sure I'll need it, how are you supposed to act when getting an earful for something daft? I argued my point but It was as much use as pi$$Ing in the wind and made matters worse, should you just play along?

What sort of work is it you do? I've always found this sort of stupidity is common is workplaces with a majority of low skilled/unskilled workers, as if certain people try to compensate for their lack of skills by throwing their weight around and bullying people. Fortunately a bit higher up the employment ladder it tends to be less of an issue.
