Hi everyone, thank you for all your help and comments. It is really nice to know that I have got support from people out there.

I just wanted to let you know the good news really and ask you for some advice aswell.
I got a phone call 2 hours ago and I have got a job interview for next wednesday. I am so happy and excited because the woman on the phone was really nice and also said to me that my sister will be able to show me where to go because she works there which was really nice because I did not even mention my sister and also my sis is a really good worker and has not had a day off sick which I hope will give her a good first impression of me too.

Anyway I am just so looking forward to it and I feel that this is a good start for me.

I have been trying to ring up my new deal advisor for the past 2 hours and she has not answered the telephone and neither has anyone in the job centre. I have just remembered that they are doing a refurbishment in there until next Friday and I am not sure what to do.
She told me to contact her as soon as I get any kind of Job Interview and also because that way she will be able to see me about getting some clothes etc.
I hope all of this is making sense by the way.
Also I have just booked a hair appointment for Tuesday because I have not had my done for 4-5 months and I want to look nice for my interview because it is such a mess and my roots are really bad and I feel that they will just look at me and think I am a poor person who does not look after themselves. But what should I do about my advisor do you think she will be able to help me with the advisors discretionary fund for getting my hair done etc?

Again I really appreciate any help or ideas anyone has got even if you have never been on New Deal, I would just appreciate it so so much. Thank you and I will be online later tonight. Take care X

    HI there

Maybe your Mom can help you in the short term, since oyu can't get hold of your Adviser? I have been on benefit twice in my life and I know exactly how you are feeling. Do not feel as if you are a sponger! You obviously have the right mental attitude and have uni to look forward to later in the year, so this 'slump' is very short term.

I can't really help as I have never been on New Deal, but just wanted to say best of luck...

    Hi cd

Well done you for getting the interview and sorry to hear you are having difficulties re contacting your adviser.

You could find your next nearest JobCentre here

    http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/cms.asp?Page=/Home/AboutUs/OurOffices

Give them a ring and explain your difficulty, (stressing the urgency), and ask what interim arrangements have been made for dealing with claimants whilst the refurbishment is under way. Strange that calls are not being re-directed at least???

It sounds reasonable to me to ask for money for hairdressing but I guess it will be up to the discretion of your adviser. My local J/C once paid for someone to attend WeightWatchers!!! You go for it and claim all you can as you will need smart clothes for when you start work anyway.

Do let us know how you get on and very best wishes for Wednesday.

Head up, shoulders back, nice confident smile...show 'em what you're made of!!!

    Good Luck!!!!

You have to make claims for clothes etc. through your advisor before going for interview, so you must find some way of making contact. You might also be entitled to your travel expenses under the travel to interview scheme, but again, you have to ask for it before going for interview. I hope you sort something out!

Wish me luck everyone, I am off to my interview. I have had to make do with what I have got because I have not been able to get in contact with my advisor or the job centre so I am really nervous that I do not look right. Thanks for all of your support you have all been great XXX

    Good Luck!

When you get back, still put in a claim for clothing/travel to interview - as you couldn't get hold of your advisor before.

WOW everyone, I just got the phone call and I got the job!!! I am soooooooooooooooooooooo pleased and I start on Wednesday.
I can't believe that after all of this time I am actually going to be working soon and can buy stuff with my own money. Thank you everyone for all of your help.
I was wandering if you could just help me with one last bit before I start working?
I went to my new deal advisor meeting today and my advisor was not there as it is still being refurbished. I had to speak to someone else and she said that she has not worked on New deal for a long time so is not sure of how to claim money etc.
I am going to ring up on Tuesday and ask to see my new deal advisor and was wandering if anyone could help me with ideas as to what I can claim for?
I have to do a weeks induction training so will need clothes, money for food etc but I feel really bad asking for this so if anyone can think of anything that would be great and also how I should tell her that would be even brilliant.
Also what happens now that I start working? Is there any help as I do not get paid for a month and can I still claim the bus pass thing that they said I could? Thank you everyone again so so so much X
