sold item buyer claims they havnt received it.

I sold a duvet the other week to a buyer on Gumtree for £30 plus £10 postage. They are now saying they hav'nt received it. I posted it last Wednesday so it should be there by now. Am pretty sure i sent it via Parcelforce as it was too heavy to post via Royal Mail. Typically i have lost the proof of postage Grrrr. Do i ring the post office i sent it from or ring Parcel Force? I stupidly just put it in the original box and did'nt cover the box over so chances are the postman thought hmm expensive duvet i'll have that! I could be wrong though but can't help but think cynically. I don't see how a box that size can just go missing?! Thanks guys.

What would you say to the Post Office or to Parcel Force? Do you have any tracking reference?

If it's not been delivered then you must refund. If you haven't got the proof of posting or a receipt then you can't claim.

    Parcels do go missing.
  • The tracking reference was on the proof of postage slip they give you at the post office.

Well afaik you can't get the number, unless perhaps you have a very helpful PO who can go back through their tracking details. But as you aren't even sure you sent it with PF I think you must really be chasing the impossible.
  • Oh dear, thanks anyway :(

You don't even know how you sent it,but have decided the 'postmen' have stolen it?
Do you know many Postmen delivering for Parcelforce?

I post numerous items each week so like i said pretty sure it was parcelforce. Someone must have it. It was wrapped in a load of parcel tape. Had a return address on and the main label was practically super glued down. It's just annoying that you pay for a service and it's not delivered.

A few years ago I had to process the paperwork to make a claim for 2 items that went missing whilst being shipped internationally.

One was a 1000L container of detergent and the other was a helicopter liferaft. (total shipping weight of about 80KG and in a huge wooden box).
According to the freight manifests the items were loaded on to an aircraft in Paris but were not onboard when it landed!

All it would take for your duvet to go missing is for the label to come off or for it to be rendered illegible or for the delivery man to sisread the address and drop it off at the wrong house.
    Someone must have it.

It may have been delivered and it could just be the buyer pulling a fast one to get a refund.
Without tracking, there is no way to prove either way.

Blimey they are huge items to have gone missing

Like i said it had 2 labels on it. Main address on top of the box and the return underneath the box. In fact i remember now i wrote my address on the actual box not stuck a label on! I wrote them in block big black capital letters neatly as can be. Yeah you could be right the buyer might have received the item and now wants a freebie :( Suppose there are some scammers out there.

Dont forget though, it could also be lost...just as much chance it could be either.
Plus if it was sent parcelforce wouldnt it have a tracking number? Would have thought that would put off most potential scammers as they wouldnt know whether you had the tracking info or not?
  • Yeah true. Just gotta hope it makes an appearance then or i find the tracking info i seem to have everything but.. sods law that.
