Buyer wants own courier for a collect only item

I have just sold an expensive item, which was marked as collect only.

I find out the buyer is in Scotland and wants to use his own courier.

However, I have to wrap it up, using my bubblewrap and tape, which I would normally included in the delivery charge.

Do I ask the buyer for a contribution ... or just take the hit

thank you

You refuse and tell buyer it is collection in person only and that you may assist in carrying item to the car, but it will not be wrapped and boxed and you will expect an agreed 1 hour time slot.

I assume a courier also means there is no way you can negotiate for the preferred cash on collection only?

    Use your own courier.

You'll have no proof it was ever collected / delivered.

Do a search in here, its a potential scam.

Don't agree to this. Refund their payment.

Email them and explain that the items were for collection only as you don't have the time to wait in for a courier.

Hopefully they will understand and agree to a cancellation so you can get your fees back.

Bear in mind you would have probably achieved a higher price if you listed with courier delivery.

    Not necessarily.

A courier should provide a waybill number or proof of collection with tracking number upon request.

What I would do though, is take plenty of pics of the item BEFORE collection to prove it's not damaged.

    Ken. 37 years in transport.
That's my mutt in the picture above.

Unfortunately 37 years in transport is no help when faced with ebay and paypal policies and UK law. Sellers remain responsible for items until buyer receives them, some random photos taken at some point before collection does not help at all if item is lost or damaged en route.

Then my 37 years count for nothing and I bow to your superior knowledge then.....

Good call - cos he's right.

Sellers have to prove THEY paid for a courier and delivered the item. Otherwise, they can kiss their money goodbye.
