How to find out language options in mpg file

There are a number of test mpg files at work that have any number of languages/subtitles encoded in them. Problem is, no one knows what languages/subtitles each video has!
Is there an easy way to find this out? My only option so far is to download the mpg file to my laptop (they're currently stored on a linux machine), then play them with VLC. This gives me the number of language options, but not what the language is (they're titled as lang 1, lang 2 etc), and it also gives the subtitles. Is this method accurate? A colleague at work is pretty sure he's seen Japanese subtitles on the mpg file before, but VLC only lists English and Arabic...
Alternatively, is there any other methods to work out what language options there are encoded? The number of languages/subtitles would be good, but knowing what languages they are would be even better.
If possible, any ideas if this can be done on a linux machine without installing software? It's running fedora, but I'm not sure what version - at least 9.

Try MediaInfo. Drag and drop a video to the MediaInfo window and it will show details of all the streams present. A fedora version is available.0

Thanks fenlander.
It gives me the same info as VLC but it's re-assuring to know that hopefully it means it's correct. Unfortunately it doesn't recognise the language either (just lang 1, lang 2 etc). I guess that means the information isn't encoded0
