I really would not like to speculate on what the lender might do in the event of an audit. Reducing the mortgage amount seems the lightest "punishment" you might face.I am a mortgage broker. What would you do if i was your client kingstreet... should we pull out and wait till i go back to work to apply for mortgage?

I applied for a mortgage when i was heavily pregnant and never told the lender. They didnt ask, so i didnt tell (shock horror, shame on me yadda yadda yadda). They asked for the number of dependents, and at the time they asked, it was 0, so i put 0 (my baby doesnt technically exist til its born!) The mortgage company also asked work for a reference. It was actually a form that my boss had to fill in. I asked them to fax it to work so it would be done quicker so i actually saw it. It asked for my salary and whether my post was permanent. My boss filled in the details and i sent it back. Again, there was nothing asking about pregnancy or anything like that so it wasnt mentioned. As long as your jobs still there after youve had the baby, i dont see the problemo!
You'd have a heart attack with all the stress listening to some of the people on here! Shes pregnant people! Calm it with the doom and gloom, you'll set the woman off in labour!
Also to add, i have also applied for a mortgage whilst on maternity leave. Obviously i disclosed this as it was on my pay slips and my number of dependents was no longer 0. They werent bothered, just asked for a letter from work saying my job was still there afterwards.
No need to stress.

Thanks for this, it is appreciated, but i have to say it does help to have the MA's on here be honest with me about the worst case scenerios!
I have to say i am feeling the stress, and being 35wks pregant doesnt help as emotions are running very high...Im just thinking once the baby arrives ill have something else to worry about!

The main question here lies with the applicant.
If they state £20k pa income and intend to go back to work on that salary then affordability and loan amount, payment is based on this. All done point of sale.
Should that person go back on reduced terms, ok, but they have the bill to pay. Should they fall into arrears, the AIP/application is based on 'no changes in your circumstances'. A baby due, although not needed for a mortgage app is important should reduced hours and income be a factor going forward. A loophole lenders will use in court should it get that far.0 -
Hi Jay Jay, I have been reading through your post and am in the same situation. I have applied and had a mortgage offer through the Halifax i went via a broker who is aware of my pregnancy but as I have no dependants at present it was not stated on the application I was hoping that everything would all be completed before I had the baby but unfortunately I am yet to sign contracts & exchange and I am 2 weeks away from my due date. I am now really worried that my mortgage offer could be pulled. Especially after signing contracts but before completion I really can't afford to lose the deposit. I am going to raise this via my broker as would rather get it resolved before signing anything. I'll let you know I get on.0

I will definatly be going back to work full time most likely after 6 months and my mum is dealing with the childcare of the baby, paying the mortgage isnt an issue as hubbies salary would cover it no worries, just cant use him due to his ccj.0 -

are you buying in your name only? are you buying new which is why there is a delay between exchange and completion?
Unless they audit you there would be no way of the halifax finding out would there?
Do you know if your application with them was normal or fasttracked? with the fast track i only gave most recent payslip and id/proof of address0
