Long wait for iphone 5 is this the norm?
I have been waiting six weeks to the day since I ordered my iphone 5 from O2. I ordered online and am from Northern Ireland
Is this the norm?It seems a bit eccessive espically when you go to their online shop and it says the same phone is in stock.
I have contacted o2 direclty but they havent been able to give a decent excuse. They said I could go to shop and try there which is of course more expensive than online.
Im not impatient just dissapointed, the new contract is £15 quid less that what im on so the delay so far will soon have cost me £30 not to mention i could have sold my phone to a collegue 6 weeks ago for £200!!
anyone else still waiting?i beginning to think the iphone 6 will be out before o2 completes my order

Apple products tend to be released in limited numbers often selling out within hours (or less) of release. You can read this as under estimating demand, deliberatly or not, or simply as it's such an in demand product. Apple reported selling 5 million of them in the first weekend alone, although not all will be "real" orders some will end up on backorder like yours is.
Apple themselves have a month wait on an order for an Iphone 5, and the new ipad mini has a 2 week delay already. Apple can't build them to keep up with the demand and boats can't speed up on the journey over form China, so thats the way it is.
Just because the online store says it's in stock it may still be a delay getting one to the buyer..0 -
Online and over the phone iPhone orders from O2 are being sourced through Carphone Warehouse. As such the wait is huge as they are supplying both O2 & themselves.
You may have more luck cancelling the order and buying direct from an O2 shop, though as mentioned the prices in store and online are different.
If you do go to a shop you can check the stock on the o2 website/iphone 50 -
My iPhone 5 came from Carphone Warehouse and a
Couple of my friends got theirs from CPW too.
I waited 4 days for delivery, one friend waited a week and the other for 10 days.
I don't think being in NI should make a difference and if I were you I'd kick up a stink as it looks to me like something has gone wrong.0 -
My other half was ringing the local O2 store daily until they finally had some in stock.. unfortunately they won't reserve anything so it was first come, first served.0

Well you can't do anything but wait. If iPhone 5 is what you really want.0

I ordered mine online and collected it the next day from the Apple shop."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

6 weeks seems towards the excessive for waiting, have you considered escalating a complaint up through O2? It can't hurt to drop an email to management and enquire it they feel 6 weeks is good enough.
Having said that, the iphone has been a huge success for Apple, they are still in the process of rolling out new country releases, and with China launching next month demand isn't dropping off. The only upside is that Foxconn has supposedly got over the manufacturing issues and upped capacity.
It's expected that Apple will sell 46 million iPhone 5's by the end of the year.
One analysts positionShaw Wu of Sterne Agee revealed in a note to investors on Thursday that his checks within Apple's supply chain have found that Apple has significantly improved its iPhone 5 production capacity since the device first launched in late September.
With supply constraints of the iPhone 5 expected to ease, Wu believes Apple will sell 46.5 million total iPhone units in the company's December quarter. That would be a major quarter-over-quarter increase from the 26.9 million iPhone units Apple shipped in the preceding September quarter.====0 -
I got fed up with O2 and apple. I dont think the iphone is that special that they expect customers to wait so long and i didnt get the impression that O2 valued my custom whatsoever.
I have left O2 as of today and wont be bothering with iphone anymore
For what its worth i tried both in the shop and i think the samsung is a nicer phone and have went for that.
I bet im not the only one voting with my feet.0 -
I ordered iPhone 5 direct from Apple just over 4 weeks ago......no sign of it yet :mad:0
