Unique adult day out in west yorkshire

Hi All,

I have been browsing around the internet looking for unique and interesting days out in the yorkshire area.

Most of my googling has resulted in places that are generally family oriented days out, most of which I have been to myself as a child or do not really interest me.

For example I dont really have any interest in walking around period houses/gardens or animal related places, or really any 'typical' educational places science/art museums ect.

I found out that Fieldhead do a mental health museum tour, which I thought might be somewhat interesting and certainly not something I have seen before.

Any ideas/suggestions welcome. Something unique fun and educational for a couple of adults.

Thanks

RL

Not solely for adults but have you considered The Forbidden Corner?

  • I enjoyed Magna near Rotherham. They used to do adult-only evenings, not sure they still do ...
  • Hi All,

    thanks for the reponses,

Perhaps I should clarify, the places I'm looking at do not have to be Adult Only, rather I was looking for somethign that is a bit less generic, a bit less commercial.

A bit hard to explain exactly what I want as I am not sure myself, something unexpected, a bit wierd or on a education subject that is odd or interesting in a supprising way.

The forbidden Corner looks like it might be worth a look, I had not found it in my googling.

I've also been looking at wood carving days out and woodsy type things but I guess im looking at the wrong time of year.

I'm really looking for something that I haven't done before or dont know anything about and alot of the 'standard' day out places just seem a bit blahh to me.

    Cheers

My partner and I went on a falconry day near York. It was really interesting and only 3 of us so not commercial/impersonal. We bought via groupon but I'm sure they do their own deals too. Think it was called Sutton in the woods?

You asked for unexpected;weird;odd;interesting and surprising, The Forbidden Corner delivers on all 5 points.I went over the Summer with O.H (43yrs) D.D (10 yrs) D.S (8yrs) and we all loved it in different way.

We went there a few years ago with DD's 16 & 14, OH and Aunt & Uncle -in their 60's, and the above words apply, we all loved it, especially when I got stuck trying to go threough a small stone gap!!

  • I'd second Eden Camp if you haven't been there.

Lots of wartime reminiscences, most fascinatng, some very touching.

    The "reconstructions" are entertaining too.

We spent a day there but it wan't long enough for us.

The National Coal Mining museum might be good for you too. You actually go down to the pits, better when there's hardly anyone there...

I love visiting stately homes, could give you lots of ideas there, hehe, but you've mentioned you don't like them, so...

If you don't mind travelling a bit further west, I loved visiting the Jodrell Bank, both the visiting centre and just looking at the telescope.
