Ready Made Curtain Sizes

Hi folks,

I wonder can anyone tell me, when ready made curtains have the size on them i.e 228mm width x 228mm drop, is the width measurement:

a) the size of window they fit
b) the width of the pair of curtains or
c) the width of each curtain

If b or c is it the width ungathered or gathered.

Trying to work out whether I need to buy one pair or two.

Thanks Shegirl, so if I buy one pair I will get a total ungathered width of 456mm?

Hope so, then 1 pair will do!

To be honest, I always buy twice the width of the measurement of each window, that gives you a nice gather when they are closed.

I dont know why they dont make curtains that just go down to say the skirting board. They make them windowsill height, half way down the wall under the window or ones that trail 10 inches onto the floor.

Yep.BUT you always buy curtains wider than the window.I think the average rule is that they should be one and a half times the width of the window.

Thanks, the window is about 300mm, so 456mm should be ok, one and a half pairs probs would be better, but two pairs I think would be way too much.

Makes me feel a little better for choosing paint that doesn't go with my curtains, even though I insisted it would :o

Think I must be lucky, 228 is just about the right length for my window, although I need the hooks on the bottom loops and the pole is as near to the coving as it can possibly go.

Oops, no, I mean CM, duh, silly me. Mind you, the curtains would be dead cheap if I did have one!

I was measuring a calculator roll this morning, so I'm fixed in mm mode.

It wouldn't I promise you, it will look so much better from the inside when you are sat looking at them.

They go not much more than a little wavy when shut with 1.5 width. It really is worth the extra pennies.
