This is going to sound a bit thick but how do I invoke seller protection?

Thanks to everyone. Really appreciate it. We rarely use ebay and won't be back!

by scanning a copy of the proof of posting and adding it to the paypal claim

I've uploaded all the evidence I have. I called them to see what was happening. The woman claimed that if they find in favour of the buyer then the credit card company will remove the funds from my bank account (not paypal account). Surely this is nonsense? I'm hoping that it won't come to that but still. Really frustrating to know that some ticket tout is fraudulently claiming money and may get away with it. It's not a massive amount of money but if they do hand it over to him it would be fraud and that's the worst part.

  • Yes uploaded receipt as well as tracking number etc. I'm a bit of a pessimist though and always prefer to be ready for worst case scenario.
  • One last question...

My husband has now contacted 5 other sellers that our chargeback friend has purchased from within the last few weeks. All five are going through the same thing as us. That's 6 people he's claimed chargeback on. I just wondered if anyone knew if we could go to the police as it's now clearly fraud.

One of the sellers uploaded proof of postage, tracking etc etc and Paypal are refusing to accept that as evidence and have found in favour of the chargeback scammer. I really want to find a way to stop this scammer from continuing!
  • Re seller protection, it is something that you may need to remind Paypal of if you lose the case, I am not at my PC but from memory it is Section 11 and perhaps sub section 11.2. I will post it here in the morning.

Regarding other suspect activity there is a 'report seller' tab now on EBay where you can give them the info you have gleaned.

Please keep positive and don't let this put you off, it will eventually be sorted and you may also prevent other sellers from suffering at this persons hands.

Section 11 and specifically 11.7 (close!)

    You are a chargeback case.
  • Thanks, I just feel so angry that this scammer is getting away with it! Really appreciate your help. His account on eBay is now closed. Not sure if this means eBay are onto him or he just wants to hide his trail...
  • Just wanted to say thanks for the advice. PayPal have confirmed that we are covered by their seller protection. Unfortunately I have now discovered 13 others all scammed by the same man. Two refunds, one not. I've reported it to a newspaper consumer group in the hope it can help others. They have said trey will get back to me soon, I just think if it's publicised then it may show the importance of following the rules. We got lucky.
