Chargeback scam help

Hi wondering if anyone could offer some advice?

We sold some concert tickets on ebay and we were paid via paypal. Now the buyer is claiming charge back. We used Royal Mail and recorded delivery. We checked via Royal Mail and we have his signature, we also have an email from him saying he received it and finally positive feedback from it.

We've advised Paypay that we have this evidence but we're concerned that this won't matter and they can take the money straight from our bank account. Thanks.

what sort of chargeback, what do paypal actually say? Is this an INR or a bank chargeback as you need different things to defend them.

  • It's an unauthorised payment chargeback?

Basically we sold tickets on eBay and the buyer is claiming the payment was made without his authorisation. We sent the tickets the address on his account, he messaged us from his personal email account saying he got tickets, he left feedback on our eBay account to say he got tickets and finally we have his signature to say he received package (via royal mail).

To easily defend a bank chargeback you need to scan and upload your proof of posting into the dispute. You say it went recorded, so in your case that will be a scan (probably back and front) of the orange slip. Then badger PayPal and tell them you have provided proof of postage and you will win. That assumes all other seller protection criteria were in place of course.

You must upload that proof though, neither tracking nor feedback is any good.

  • A couple of years back I sold a £90 book to the US. After buyer received the book and left positive feedback I got a chargeback email and funds were put on hold. I was fortunate that the person I spoke to at paypal/eBay checked the feedback left and the tracking I provided and I got to keep the money. Hopefully you'll have the same outcome.

If you read the thread you will note it os proof of posting you need for a bank chargeback. Proof of delivery via tracking is needed for an INR.

Feedback makes no difference at all as is not even mentioned in the seller protection requirements.

When I spoke to PayPal they blamed the credit card company. They said it's vhe client's son who used the card without his knowledge so I really don't see how they could claim??

The sale was several weeks ago so I transferred money to my bank account. Can they take the money back out of my account?

They will put your paypal into a negative balance and then if they cannot get funds from you will pass to debt collectors.

Don't even think about going down that route.

Scan in your proof of posting as per Soolins post above. Then when the chargeback is reviewed, Paypal's seller protection will cover the loss and you will not lose out.

Fail to do it and there will be no end of troubles.

I was just mentioning what happened to me.....not what was needed for a bank charge! Similar thing happened to me but within 5 mins of contacting paypal they could see it wasn't an unauthorized payment as buyer stated and paypal unfroze my account and nothing was taken out. In this case 2 years ago paypal seller protection really did help.....I didn't have to send out anything to anyone.....tracking number was checked whilst I was on the phone and feedback and it was as easy as that. Obviously things have changed and it's not as easy now.
Things just seem to be getting worse and buyers are Definately protected more than sellers.

wouldn't it be easier merely to invoke your seller protection which guarantees you a win?

Sellers are completely safe from bank chargebacks and the system changed about 4 years ago to give sellers more protection- not less.

This is going to sound a bit thick but how do I invoke seller protection?

Thanks to everyone. Really appreciate it. We rarely use ebay and won't be back!
