            Thanks Ziggy.
I have a medical condition which is a blessing and a curse: an Eidetic Memory.
This means that if I hear something through my ears I will often remember it for life. (It's not like a photographic memory where you remember everything you see.)
With songs I will often remember all the lyrics and tune after hearing it just once. This was helpful when getting my Music degree and for teaching music but not helpful when I am trapped on a bus and the driver is playing the most irritating tune ever! It's also useful when travelling because I learn languages easily.
So, I will also remember random facts and information that I've heard on the radio, at work at the bank, on tv or from a lecture. I figured I might as well share some of this random rubbish in my head on this forum!
Barring the annoying tune part, that's completely awesome!LBM 11/06/2010: DFD 30/04/2013Total repaid: £10,490.310

I'm not an expert on home insurance but £800k to rebuild is obscene assuming you are living in a normal house?! The rebuild cost should be lower than the value of the house, that's about as much as I know I'm afraid. Do some comparisons online & some sites suggest the cost for you, £150k sounds a lot better.
Aloha, yeah, we did just move last year but both of us have spoken to recruitment agents recently about jobs for £10k-ish more elsewhere so might still make sense to move, esp because OH's job is still temporary. If he can get a better paid/permanent job and I can either do my current job from home or another one elsewhere then it might work out better for all of us.
I found the website to do house rebuild quotes that Allydowd mentioned... http://calculator.bcis.co.uk/ This is the one the insurance companies want you to use. Ended up about £200k, which is still more than the value of the house though. The insurance people were v annoying though when we called so think we're going to move. Told them about the extra security and smoke alarms and then mentioned that the 'approx year of house build' was wrong - 1897 instead of 1920 - and that pushed the premium up by another £34 quid! Going to do some proper research now and check Quidco.
Are you on Ravelry? Loads of free patterns there so you might find something.carrielovesfanta wrote: »Afternoon all,
PS: Does anyone know of a very cute animal doorstop crochet pattern. My mum wants one for Christmas but all the ones I've seen online don't really look that cute? Thanks!

~This sounds odd but get a quote for combined buildings and contents and separate buildings and contents insurance. Combined isn't always cheaper.
Have you checked your re-build cost on somewhere like this? The Building Cost Information Service (BCIS) of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) produces a range of detailed guidance on the cost of rebuilding houses and flats. Click link: ABIS Calculator
Cool, will check out separate quotes too. Thanks
That website was much more use than talking to the blinking insurance Co. You'd think they'd know by the info they've got that £800k wasn't right.0

            * can anyone tell me what the rules are on returning things after a MS? E.g. if they pay £5 towards something I buy, can I return it and bag the £5 or do I need to keep it? It makes no odds at the moment as I am buying things I need to get anyway but just so I know for future. I've only saw it once in an advert where it said if the shopper was returning the item, they should wait an hour.
As far as I know if you need to use the receipt you cannot exchange it unless specified by the company. I have changed something once and did not use the receipt so was given a voucher rather than cash but there was no way it could be traced back to me. I would not normally do this but the item was such poor quality it was pointless keeping it and it was a spend only job.Aiming to make £7,500 online in 20220

Martin Lewis suggests if you are shopping around for home insurance you should check the following websites. This means you will have checked nearly 100% of the insurance companies for quotes:
 Confused.com
 Compare The Market.com
 Aviva
 Direct Line
 Beat That Quote.com
 Money Supermarket
 Tesco Compare
 Quote Zone
 uSwitch
Go Compare (By this point you will be begging for mercy!)
Also check with your bank if you're still on speaking terms with them. They will often offer competative rates for existing customers. Existing NatWest and RBS customers can currently take advantage of a guarantee-to-beat existing cover by at least £25 offer and they'll pay your cancellation fees with your old provider. To get the offer it you need to call them during office hours. It expires end of 2012.
If you can afford to pay the whole year up-front this can be cheaper than paying monthly and having to pay a surcharge for the privilege.
Also if one of you in your house is unemployed put the employed person on the policy first to get a cheaper quote.Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0
