<Runs around in circles like a headless chicken>
 Three bits of news:
:DWe are getting the keys to our new-er home on Monday at last! We were in a house fire in Dec 2011 when someone set fire to our building; this is the housing association finally moving us out of the char-grilled flat.We were meant to move in Feb 2012 but the hugely incompetent housing association without a brain-cell between them (sorry DNM, I know some housing officers are awesome) mucked up the arrangements so here we are finally flitting! We've been living out of cardboard boxes since Feb 2012. I'm still furious that our substance abusing, alcoholic and criminal neighbours who've never done a days work in their life and who were visited by the Police weekly (!) for fighting, dealing and anti-social behaviour and whose names were in the newspaper court reports regularly were immediately re-housed because their addictions are "health needs sufficiently serious to require them to be immediately re-housed" so that "they would have a chance to rehabilitate themselves". They were classified as "vulnerable". Meanwhile my partner's asthma, made worse by char-grilled walls, and crippling arthritis made worse by having to climb over rubble in the communal stairway/close to get in or out the building and having only tepid water in the bathroom could not be taken into account because we are not "vulnerable" so they told us and we do have piping hot water in the kitchen! We've always paid the rent and been law-abiding. And we are too in debt to afford a private rental so we just had to wait. Rant over...
:DI'm at last feeling well physically and tomorrow will be my first full day with no anti-depressants.
:mad:My boss told me this morning that I will no longer be doing Job A full-time, which I love, but will be doing mornings on Job A and afternoons on Job B, which I do not love. At least I have a job, I suppose. Just have to get used to the idea.
 So today I will be:
:starmod: Discussing move with OH. All planned and packed, but lots to decide on.
:starmod: Re-jigging my finances to accommodate move. It's an extra £5 a week but we will have hot water, a garden and a spare bedroom!
:starmod: Telling OH she has been signed up for a mystery shop on Saturday!
:starmod: Posting a couple of offers on here.

Does anyone know of a very cute animal doorstop crochet pattern. My mum wants one for Christmas but all the ones I've seen online don't really look that cute? Thanks!
 Any good?

            Hi all,
Hugs to those that need them :A
Sorry I've not been round that much but yet again, my work/life balance was out of kilter and I was spending more time at work (before and after work and working through lunch) so I actually felt guilty about browsing the Internet or leaving on time for college...anyhow, rant over.
I've been off work all week but spent Monday/ Tuesday sleeping and yesterday seeing my nan who is sin a care home about 5 miles away from home. I was worried that she may be losing it, but she is a whizz at ace changes (the only card game she can remember the rules and the suits to) and beat me more times thank I'd like to admit . It was good to see her . It was good to see her
Need to get back onto the dfw wheel as I've been treating myself recently - I've justified it by not having to buy rail fare this week so I've saved £70.
Today I have/will:- Emptied change pots and paid the money into my bank account - this will cover the shortfall from this month and will go into a higher rate savings account
- Treated myself to magazines and something nice for dinner (mum paid half)
- Took our car out and broke it..... It didn't feel right, so confessed to hubby who took the car out and agreed with me. He thought the clutch was on its way out so called mr aa who said it was the coil pack and charged us £35 for a new one list price £80 - paid on aa credit card (prepaid) so collect points towards membership
- Hubby paid me back for the part so moved cash into savings account
- Meals from stores
- Read papers online
- Will be driving to college but carefully to test out the new part
- Go early to college to 1) get a decent car park space, 2) go to the beauty salon to enquire about electrolysis 3) have a proper gossip with the girls as I've not seen them for a couple of weeks
- Watched bits n bobs on the sky box rather than going out

 Think that's about it
Take care everyone, love to you all

*sigh* I'm late to the party:o
Left house at 745am to get to hospital and been back for 15 mins  so the day has just passed me by ........
I have taken advantage of several free cups of tea & lunch while I was in tho:DRFTA said " It's got thread stuck / tangled in the bit where the bottom thread reel goes. The needle doesn't seem to be flowing properly and jams now & then (and the thread sometimes breaks which is probably where it comes from) - it probably needs a good oil."
Is the needle bent? Take it off and put it next to something straight to see.
Is it clogged up with fluff/thread? Take apart the accessible bits and clean them. Take a photo on your mobile before you disassemble anything so you know how to put it back! After de-clogging, apply a little oil.
Failing that look here: DIY sewing machine repair.
Ally thanks so much for that - I will do this tomorrow (and I'd never have thought of taking a pic before I took it to bits so really glad you mentioned that!) so really glad you mentioned that!)
Sorry to hear about the housing issue - can't believe you've been left like that since Feb  ...... disgraceful and bloomin' typical is all I can say .... if you work / pay your taxes etc you get no help whatsoever . Hope the move goes well.....
 Fantastic that you're feeling better

Just come across this thread - can I ask what DFW means please?
I think I have gathered the main idea so here goes but please correct me if I am wrong! Today I have:- Been on the NSD thread and committeed to 10 days in November
- Checked my bank account online and extended my overdraft as saw that dds would send me over thus leading to fines
- Done a weekly meal plan and shopped online sticking to weekly budget

 · Update details with home insurance people - we have hard wired smoke alarms, windows with locks and securer doors than they stated on the quote they sent - will hopefully lower premium a bit! Also need to check if cost to rebuild makes a difference. They had us down for £800k to rebuild but other sites I saw said £150k! **Does anyone know about home insurance?**
I work in banking and we do provide home insurance though it's not my speciality. This is not professional advice, just thoughts from experience. My understanding is: This is not professional advice, just thoughts from experience. My understanding is:
~The better your home's security the cheaper your quote should be. Fitting key-operated window locks to accessible windows and five-lever mortise deadlocks (British Standard BS3621) to all external doors will cut costs as will fitting a door chain and spy-hole.
~Fitting smoke alarms throughout your home and a fire extinguisher in the kitchen can also reduce your quote.
~Fitting NACOSS-approved burglar alarms reduce costs.
~If you join a Neighbourhood watch scheme your premiums will decrease
~This sounds odd but get a quote for combined buildings and contents and separate buildings and contents insurance. Combined isn't always cheaper.
 ~Haggling over insurance often works!
Have you checked your re-build cost on somewhere like this? Pernicious - I did think about those lo-flo things but I don't know if you would be able to tell it was there (looks-wise), I don't think the LL would be happy if he knew.
Allydowd - thank you, I did see loopy lamb but he seemed a bit Eastery? Was thinking of a cat. I saw the animaguri (sp?) one and the scaredy cat one, but neither had the "awwwwwww!" factor. I did like the animaguri alien rabbit but not sure mum would LBM 11/06/2010: DFD 30/04/2013Total repaid: £10,490.310 LBM 11/06/2010: DFD 30/04/2013Total repaid: £10,490.310

Ally - Thanks for all the fab links, tips and offers you give to this thread, you are amazing :A
 Thanks Ziggy.
I have a medical condition which is a blessing and a curse: an Eidetic Memory.
This means that if I hear something through my ears I will often remember it for life. (It's not like a photographic memory where you remember everything you see.)
With songs I will often remember all the lyrics and tune after hearing it just once. This was helpful when getting my Music degree and for teaching music but not helpful when I am trapped on a bus and the driver is playing the most irritating tune ever! It's also useful when travelling because I learn languages easily.
So, I will also remember random facts and information that I've heard on the radio, at work at the bank, on tv or from a lecture. I figured I might as well share some of this random rubbish in my head on this forum!Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0
