android back up and restore
I set my G300 android to backup data to my Gmail account soon after I upgraded the system
What is included in the backup? - presumably email accounts?
Can i see this 'backup file' to see what's in it - where does it live?
can it be restored to any version of android OS or is it bound to the same version that created it?

When will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?

If you want to back up your files and settings you need something like Titanium Backup (and superuser privileges ie you need to have rooted your phone).
I can't quite remember what google backup does, but it doesn't back up very much.
Your gmail emails are not affected by anything that happens to your phone as they live "in the cloud".0 -
If i remember correctly it doesn't work on older versions of android, but it does going forward. The backup itself lives on googles servers so i am not sure that you can "see it"
Depending on your version of android it backs up some useful stuff.
Although i only use it to bring back my contacts, wifi passwords.
I use a non stock launcher, sms app, keyboard and restore the settings from them from within the app.
I use mybackup root to do the rest (you must be rooted to use this app)“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
it jsut backs up app data, then restores it when you setup a new phone with your google details, it will restore on any version of android, providint the apps that the data belongs to are compatible with your new phone.
You cant 'see' it, its all done behind the scenes.
you dont need to have your phone rooted to use some backup apps, such as rewares mybackup

Just those with root access can restore things faster etc. you can backup pretty much everything with it, apps and data, phone settings, calendar, contacts etc although those 2 are pointless as the data should be linked to your google account anyway, you can backup sms and mms etc etc0 -
From my experience Google will only backup some devices settings and what apps you have (on top of the usual calendar/email/contact syncing but that's not unique to Android). None of your app data, photos, videos, music or other content is backed up as far as I'm aware so you need to do all of that manually by some other means.0

Not fussed about photos videos & music because they're all on my sd card
Not fussed about email, contacts and calendar since they're all on the cloud
I just remember it took me ages to add all email accounts & settings after upgrading so just wondered if the backup would save me doing this again - i have a game save aswell I would like to keep (took me weeks to get this far) but i expect this wont be backed up but i'll prolly find this on the phone somewhereWhen will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?0 -
