people (who presumably have their own gardens if they have a dog) take their dogs out to wander and crap and pee all over your home and not their own.

A.) No, not all people with dogs have gardens.

B.) Dogs don't all understand the concept of property, just 'inside' vs 'outside'! If they need a wee while they're on a walk, they'll just have a wee. I imagine cats do the same when they're out and about.

thanks for all the replies - i still feel really bad about it

i know i should have control of my dog at all times, esp as he is young and flighty :o
no more music whilst walking the dog

i dont normally take him round the estate but i was short on time -he much prefers the beach and can pee on the sand to his heart's content :p

    I am sooo ashamed :o

Took pooch out for a walk around the estate which is a typical "new-build" estate where people have front/side gardens which aren't in any way enclosed, no fences.

Whilst I was distracted changing the music on my ipod the dog spotted a cat. He darted off and being so strong the lead just came off my hand before I knew what was going on :(

The stupid big brute then proceeded to pee on the edge of someone's front lawn. I shouted and he did get off the grass - but unfortunately not quick enough.

A lady came running out of the house waving her arms around accusing me of having no respect for peoples' gardens... she wouldn't let me explain or apologise, continued to hurl abuse such as "dogs should be on F***ing leads" (she must have missed the lead attached to him and the other end now firmly in my grip).

I tried to apologise and explain what had happened but she seemed to be getting more and more angry - I had to walk away with my tail between my legs before I ended up with a fat lip :o

There was a bloke on his drive over the road who gave me a filthy look

I really did do the walk of shame

Now I know dogs should not do any of their business on people's gardens and I never ever allow this - but am thinking this lady went slightly OTT about a bit of wee?

What do you think? (am ready for the sharp comments which cannot possibly be worse than what I have heard today) :p

I live in a block of flats with a lot of grass around it, the maintenance of it being paid for by all owners of the block. A bit different to the lady you are talking about but maybe my post will make you see things differently - a bit.

Our grass is not fenced off. It can't be. It costs a fortune to have it cut and maintained. However, a lot of dog owners have decided that this would be a great place to walk their dogs. Fine. But when you have dog after dog, walking on the grass and peeing, it becomes tiresome. In the summer, we can't go and sit on the grass that we pay for because there are so many dogs that have had"just a bit of a wee". And if one of us dares tackle any dog owners about it, well.....

What I'm trying to say is you don't know how many other dogs have had "just a bit of a wee" over her lawn. She is entitled to not want your dog on her lawn. However, she shouldn't have got so mad at you. (but you don't know what other experience she has had with other dog owners)

Finally, if your dog is such a brute, for his safety as well as that of all other people, you should really have better control over him. Your dog shouldn't be allowed to run after cats or any other animals. I can't accept your excuse of changing music on your ipod and being distracted. You can't afford to get distracted.

Can I cheekily add that the sound of birds singing is probably much more beautiful than any music on your ipod and shouldn't walking your dog be a chance to spend some quality time with him? How can you do that with an ipod?

Why would you 'tackle' anybody? Everybody in the block has the right to use that grass! Do you think birds and rats aren't using it as a toilet too? ;)

My old dog once weed against the wheel of a parked car. The owner rushed out and screamed abuse at me, saying dog wee rots rubber tyres and I'd have to buy him a new tyre.

I tried to stay patient till he swung his walking stick at my dog, who growled and showed his teeth.

Never seen anyone who needed a walking stick move out of the way so quickly!

I think the OP was using the term "Brute" affectionately rather than literally. And she did have him on his lead. All dogs will chase cats if they get half a chance.

I don't see what more the OP could've done.

This are NOT people who live in the block. These are people for the surrounding area! So no they have no right to use that grass which is a private area!

There are 16 families in the block and none have dogs.

Regardless of whether it was affectionate or not, she lost control of the dog because of her distraction and his strength!

Humans understand it, though. Which is why the woman was upset.

I always kept the Hounds on their leads in the open garden estate I used to walk through. Didn't want them lolloping over somebody else's property, never mind having a dump - and certainly not chasing the local feline population. Accidents happen.

But not everybody is going to feel kindly towards me whether I dropped the lead or, like many people, just didn't bother with one - my sister had problems with people specifically taking their dogs onto her front garden for this purpose, and the old flats I lived at had people who had gardens, walking their animals specifically through the gate to have a crap on the grass.

(ETA: someone else has the same situation, then. A whole block where nobody had dogs because it was against the terms of the lease - yet mounds of dog muck outside everyday)

Like I said, I wouldn't respond in the same way, but I do sympathise with her.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

The fact cats are free to deposit waste in my garden whenever it takes their fancy, narks me. If a dog, that ought to be kept under control in public, did the same, I'd give its' owner a free bit of advice too.
