Dog did a pee grass..."lady" went ballistic! :(

I am sooo ashamed
Took pooch out for a walk around the estate which is a typical "new-build" estate where people have front/side gardens which aren't in any way enclosed, no fences.
Whilst I was distracted changing the music on my ipod the dog spotted a cat. He darted off and being so strong the lead just came off my hand before I knew what was going on
The stupid big brute then proceeded to pee on the edge of someone's front lawn. I shouted and he did get off the grass - but unfortunately not quick enough.
A lady came running out of the house waving her arms around accusing me of having no respect for peoples' gardens... she wouldn't let me explain or apologise, continued to hurl abuse such as "dogs should be on F***ing leads" (she must have missed the lead attached to him and the other end now firmly in my grip).
I tried to apologise and explain what had happened but she seemed to be getting more and more angry - I had to walk away with my tail between my legs before I ended up with a fat lip
There was a bloke on his drive over the road who gave me a filthy look
I really did do the walk of shame
Now I know dogs should not do any of their business on people's gardens and I never ever allow this - but am thinking this lady went slightly OTT about a bit of wee?
What do you think? (am ready for the sharp comments which cannot possibly be worse than what I have heard today)

I would have told her to get over herself that it was a genuine accident (pun intended).
That you feel bad but that she should consider herself lucky it wasn't something else :rotfl:First Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -
Silly cow. I could, to some extent, understand if he'd done a poo, but you can't pick a wee up, can you?
She needs to get a life.0 -
Nope you really can't help him doing a wee on some grass that isn't enclosed. I live on a similar new build estate and my dog often pees on the edge of someone's grass. Don't see the harm and short of carrying him, there's no way to properly prevent this. She was probably jut having a bad day?!0

I would suggest teaching the dog to walk on a certain side on command and switch him to the outside edge when you go past this kind of garden. To be fair, it may just have been the straw that broke the camel's back if she's had to deal with urine burns on her lawn, picking up dog poo from other people's dogs, chase off dogs who've wandered right into her garden etc. - so maybe a bit of an overreaction to you in particular but a bit of a sore point with her?
Some people spend a lot of time and money making their front gardens look nice, and even if they don't, it's their property - they have the right to enjoy it without a dog peeing on it! I have, like most dog owners I'm sure, been caught out once or twice but generally I make sure I keep mine well away from the edge of open-plan front gardens for this very reason.
(and also if you were stood there, earphones in place, especially if she spotted you during your distracted moment, she may have judged you on that and assumed you generally didn't pay much attention to what your dog does. May just be an assumption, but she may be going off her first impressions of you..)0 -
I sympathise with her.
Planning conditions can make it impossible for you to stick a proper fence up, but then people (who presumably have their own gardens if they have a dog) take their dogs out to wander and crap and pee all over your home and not their own.
I don't think I would go ballistic in the same way - but I do sympathise with her.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
"Oh I'm so sorry! Next time I'll knock and he can use your loo instead"
Batty old cow!0 -
It's only a bit of wee for goodness sake. The lady needs to lighten up a bit and/or take a deep breath and listen to you when you tried to explain. I could understand her reaction if your dog did a woo. Does she chase cats, foxes and birds about their toilet habits too?
Incidentally, my dog wouldn't dream of doing any toilet business on anything but grass, BUT I don't allow her to go into other people's gardens. You obviously didn't do it on purpose, bless you.0 -
Thing is, even if she'd had a nice little picket fence up, he'd have still wee'd up against it, and more than likely would have caught the edge of her grass!
It wasn't like you did it on purpose. I'd have told her to wind her neck in and take a chill pill. Silly old bat!!0 -
if hes a boy dog what did he wee up?
+1 for she needs to get a life. 'boy' wee doesnt even kill the grass like my lab girl does!0 -
I think her reaction was OTT, but in fairness, if you take your dog out you are meant to have it under control.
Next time you take you dog out - don't get distracted by changing music or whatever - your dog is your responsibility, and it should not be peeing in other peoples gardens.
I realise this was a genuine accident, and her reaction is probably due to more than this one incident, she has probably been cleaning up dog poo from her garden from other peoples dogs etc.Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0
