Hi,
I had a Parking Charge Notice (PCN) on my windscreen. I was more than willing to pay the Parking Charge until I went onto their website. the ticket states that if I pay within 14 days it is £60, if not then it is a £100.

Completely my fault as I didnt see the signs hidden in the corners of the car park, with no parking bays free, I parked outside a marked bay and returned to find the official looking fine on my windscreen. Completely my fault.

Anyhow, I went onto their website to pay the fine, however it was £150 and not £60, the paper ticket was issued on the 28/10/2012 their website states that it was issued on the 30/11/1999!!

I cant pay online, cause I aint paying £150 am dubious about giving them my card details over the telephone as this has signs of fraud all over it.

Do I ignore all letters as other posts suggest, do I pay the £60 by cheque instead?

Advice is much appreciated.

  • Lucky you found MSE. You'll have realised you owe ZERO, not £60, not £100, not £150. Why on earth would you have been happy to pay anything at all? Don't people question it at all when asked to pay significant sums of money for such trifles as not quite parking in a marked bay? Amazing!

Why on earth would you consider, even for a second, paying this non-fine? Thank goodness you realised it was a scam and came here!

I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. It's not a FINE, and that date mix-up shows just what an incompetent bunch of clowns UKCPS are. Just ignore them.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?
  • Being paranoid, I don't think its a date mix up.

No, surely not. You can't be that keen to pay a scammer?

Whoa there! Your fault?! Read that bit in bold again and think about it!!

    It was never a fine. It's a scam...hence the hidden signs...

Like all the other posters on this board, you have a fake PCN.

The registered keeper can just ignore it and ignore the other letters that will arrive. The letters are easy to ignore and laugh at, when they arrive at the address of someone who knows it's all hogwash and not a real parking ticket at all.

The whole scam of fake PCNs relies firstly on people's ignorance of the fact that a random private company can't fine anyone, and secondly on their natural fear of parking tickets and the escalating costs/bailiff scenario. So PPCs copy the look of a real parking ticket and - hey presto! - the cash rolls in from victims who know no better.

There is no fine, no CCJ, no bailiff, no debt, no effect on credit rating, no Court, no repercussions at all from a pathetic, unenforceable fake PCN (= invoice) issued by a random third party.

Tick off the threatening letters here.

Watchdog clip with expert Solicitor's opinion here.

Barrister's opinion - read the answer at the bottom, it's very clear! - here.

So I recommend you/the registered keeper just plays snap with the threatograms from debt collectors - choose to ignore and laugh at the scammer and their attempt to extort money. It's like deleting obvious phishing emails from your 'Bank'; it's a very similar con based on impersonation of authority.

DID I SAY DO NOT PAY?!!!!!!!!!! :D
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • Hidden signs. They'll be sticking them down potholes next. Reminds me of Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy when poor Arthur explains when he first found the council plans to demolish his house:

"they were in middle of the bottom drawer, stacked in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'Beware Of The Leopard'". Maybe not verbatim but you get the picture.
  • Thanks for the replies. I will ignore the letters.
