My daughter just come back from babysitting .Can anybody tell me the going rate? she did once before and got paid £15 from 8pm -12am.She is 16, and had 4 children to look after, the younger two where already in bed and the older two wasen't any trouble.
This time she got round there she was told to put them all to bed, brushteeth etc. I myself have children too, but would never treat any babysitter like that.To top it all they were half an hour late and she didn't get home till 12.30am. when she got home she said they gave her £10  .
I'm sorry had to vent .

Talk about exploitation. Tell them to go and find themselves another babysitter. Next time they call, tell them she's busy. Your daughter may say she wants what she gets as pocket money etc, but they are taking advantage. Failing that, tell them they pay the going rate, before they leave or she doesn't do the stint.
Going by this link, these people are completely taking the p**s.

Looks like they overpaid the first time and underpaid the second! Best to get an agreement sorted now, before there's bad feeling.0

i used to get £15 for 8-11:30pm plus unlimited food/drinks/tv. phone for emergencys only. i looked after 2 kids aged 2 and 5 and they were usually in bed when i got there. plus i got a taxi home or my mum would pick me up. i got double for good friday, christmas eve and new years eve and would stay till 12:30.
this was in the mid 90's (i was 14/15) but i bet prices haven't changed that much.0 -
Don't let her babysit for them again.
If they ask why tell them that although your daughter doesn't realise they are taking advantage..........You Do!!!!
I used to babysit sit for a couple twice a month, had 1 baby who was always asleep and never woke. They used to leave me lovely treats to eat and were always home by half ten (I didn't start till 8pm). They paid me five pounds and that was 25 years ago!!!!!DEBTS @ 1/1/07 - £25,800:eek: DEBT @ 04/05/11 - NIL

I wouldn't expect to pay less than £5 per hour for a babysitter and I've only got two children. Your poor daughter needs to learn to agree an hourly rate in advance to stop people taking advantage of her.Debt at highest: £6,290.72 (14.2.1999)

A pound an hour per child would be a fair amount imho, with the rate doubling after midnight. If they are late, the full hour is payable.;)
That would mean 8pm to midnight= 16 pounds,if they are late it will cost them 8 pounds!
I'd pay that to get 4 kids looked after, and it would be a steal!Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I think that is a bit of a cheek. 2.50 an hour too look after 4 children ...and they were late home. I think if they employed a baby sitter from an agency they would get a bit of a fright.x x x0

I would expect to pay a minimum of £20 for that and pay the taxi home - outrageous!0

I remember the same thing happening to me when I used to babysit. The kids were awful as well. Parents turned up an hour late, drunk and only paid me £4 for 4 hours! Next time they asked me I said its this much per hour and they told me to f off (and it wasn't much either!) Some people are just users. If that is all they will pay your daughter then she's better off not bothering. I'd like to see them find someone else who is willing to get paid that little. If they get stroppy then send them this link http://www.sitters.co.uk/ and tell them to see what the real world pays!
Good luck to your daughter :j0 -
I pay £6 per hour for my babysitter and give her £5 on top for a taxi home. £2.50 an hour is definitely unacceptable - most agency babysitters earn £7.50-£10.00 per hour. It's better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.0
