A box of biscuits for xmas....

I think for me it would depend on who it was for. I've bought say aunts, uncles, cousins boxes of biccies/tins of sweets as a 'token' gift if I'm going to be seeing them on the day or if they've bought me something. For closer family or good friends then it would seem a little impersonal to me. I kind of feel that I should know them well enough to buy them something more individual then that - even if it's only something smallish if I don't have much money.
For example OH's mum always gives me and OH a box of choccies and a voucher for xmas - I'm not saying I don't appreciate the thought but after 12 years it might be nice if she made the attempt to buy something a little more personal - especially as I always try and make the effort to get her something I think she'll like.0 -
You could suggest something for your OH to her, and he could suggest something for you to her?

I know that some of my family members love certain biscuits or foods, and they wouldn't normally buy such things for themselves, so to get them for christmas is a special treat. I love marzipan fruit, if any of my relatives are on here

But generally no, the biscuits are exactly the same. Price is much the same too but because it's from M&S, it's considered "posh" so people assume they were more expensive. I only buy M&S biscuits for the tins.
I have a collection of all the giant biscuit ones (e.g. a tin shaped like a bourbon biscuit) and get excited every time a new one comes out. :rotfl:
I'd buy a particular friend at work a tin of biscuits, specifically for the tin - she's nuts about tins!0 -
I also go along with it depends who for. I always buy hubby's ex mil & fil a tin of biscuits as a small gesture present. They are both in their late 70's and give to our children, (not their grand children) and so it is just a small token. I wouldn't buy a tin for good friends or family. Having said that I do buy the cheapest things going for hubbys sister and brother in law as the last few years our kids have had something from poundland.0

Really? I think I'd rather buy a selection box than something from poundland on its own. I think their kaleidoscopes are lovely though and I'd have been happy to receive one when I was a child.
My Dad's present is from Poundland this year, I'v e got him 2 coca cola trays and some matching napkins for the grand total of £3 ... hope he's not on MSE

I'd love a box of biscuits, but chocs are a bit more upmarket

I give my neighbours a posh tin of bikkies, they give us a bottle of wine, both are happily received.
IMO homemade biscuits at Christmas is NOT such a good idea, there's so much food around you've bought in to eat anyway, and HM need to be eaten quickly otherwise they are going to go stale pretty quickly and be wasted.Make £2026 in 2026

you could also consider panetone? feels a bit more exotic than a tin of biscuits perhaps. I'lll be your friend for life if you want to send me one

depending on how much time/money you want to spend, you could perhaps do a nibbles hamper? I've seen things in costco presented in a similar style to this, where every box contains a different kind of treat.
In the past we've found nice Christmas nibbles plates and have given them with various foods to go in them, which was well received.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
I always buy my husband's siblings and their partners a bottle of wine each and either some posh chocs or a box of quality biscuits. We don't get anything in return. Maybe that is why but my husband always says he would rather get something you can eat or drink than some rubbish present that you would take back or put in a drawer.
I've never thought of it as a rubbish present, rather a luxurious treat but maybe I am just out of touch with what people want. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -
Can someone please exlpain why M & S biccies are *seemingly better* than supermarket ones?
You seriously think M & S have their own wee biccie factory? :rotfl:
(They don't.....they were made by Foxes last year:p)
They do have their own factory, they may be made by Foxes but made in a specific factory (no other biscuits made there at the same time) and to M&S recipe.
They are better quality.
I should know my OH used to work for them, and we have tried many of the biscuits range0
