Help! Data prob with iPhone 4S

So I have had a massive problem with my 4s since I upgraded to the new IOs 6. Despite closing down all the tabs and turning off my cellular data at home and at work, only using maybe 3-4 hours of data a day, and not using any apps other than Facebook, twitter and Instagram, shutting down everything appropriately, I am going through about 750mb in a month. This has changed from only using a couple of hundred to jumping to this. I have always been careful, never watching videos or downloading anything without the wifi. Also I am subscribed to certain podcast but don't have the app to download them and don't have access to books or anything.

I just looked at my usage and despite being on wifi all night and turning off the cellular data, I have somehow used 13mb? I don't understand and it's doing my head in.

I have upgraded to the latest iOS but that does t seem to have helped. Vodafone were very good about it but said that I need to phone apple and to try and speak to someone it costs 25 quid?!?

Can someone here help?

It is a known problem with the new OS. I don't think that it really costs £25 just "to speak". If Apple confirm their fault I'd demand a refund of all extra charges from Voda, but it is difficult to say who is responsible for the charges - Voda or Apple. A common sense says that it's Apple who has to pay for their flaws.
  • Urgh I'm so annoyed about this problem
  • Have you checked your iCloud settings? Go through them carefully and make sure any 'push' settings are off and set to 'fetch'.

Also check to see if iTunes Match is turned off and any 'auto-upload' settings are off.

Is the data use happening at the same time everyday for about the same amount of data? If it is, this would usually indicate a network issue.
  • Ooh I might check the out. Thanks!

    It's not a network issue, it's a documented problem with iOS 6.

I had this problem :( phone bill has come in £28 higher than normal. Have just downloaded an app called Onavo Extend which was recommended by a friend who reckons it should help with eating less data...

    Hi MiraculousM,

If you're still in need of some assistance with this could you email me with the relevant details via the link in our profile here?

All you need to do is copy and paste the link into your web browser and it will take you to the Contact us form on our website.

To ensure that it reaches us could you also quote the code WRT135 - MSE in the subject line and once our automated reply arrives update the thread with your email reference number and I'll get back to you as soon as possible?

  • I went to do this as I am still having this problem and found that there was far too much personal info to be put on that form. I am still having this problem and despite wifi being on and data off for 22 hours of the day, I am going through roughly 60mb a day. ridiculous
