Using a bank statement as one form of ID - only have online statements

I only have online statements, but i need a statement as part of an ID check. It's a 2 parter - photo ID which is no problem & something like a bank statement or utility bill. As i live with my mum, no bills are in my name & i'd only have the bank statements, except i've done away with the paper statements option.
Can i just print off a bank statement & have this be acceptable? Or is it a case of switch to paper statement, wait 1 month to get one, by which time it's too late to do what i need to do tomorrow?

When I went for my mortgage and forget one piece of id, I got my bank (non-local branch) to print off the customer record and then stamp it with the official bank stamp and sign/date that and it was accepted.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. In short no....
Have been through all this recently applying for a marriage visa for my OH and they have to either be original on headed paper or you have to go into a branch and get them to print them, stamp them with the bank stamp and initial.
I have had a similar problem today where the registry office rejected a translation of a document they wanted the translation and a original signed statement by the translator as to the veracity of the translation.
A signed scanned printed letter not good enough had to be the original.
I would urge anyone to never switch to online statements if you ever need to prove your address or ID it is a pain to get it sorted stick with paper statements for everything.
Welcome to the UK stuck in the 19th Century.I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -
Well that sounds like a right nightmare. They should change the system then if they're wanting everything paperless.
Do the banks typically charge for this? Can it vary? Or is it typically free? I really need to get some jobs sorted tomorrow & i'm needing this paperwork.0 -
Indeed Marvin the 19th Century,
Odd isn't it that banks and credit card companies actually say that it is safer to download the statements than having them float aound the postal system for a few days....even moreso when it's obvious what they are.
Yet in the situation of the OP you are stuck it seems....maybe the trick is to "turn off" the paperless statements ( I think with bank ones you can choose the frequency of them) for a week until you get one.
Do this in advance of when you know when you will need one.....CC statements are monthly though so switch to paper right after getting one on the net, you maybe able to call the card issuier who may send you a paper statement before the next one is due.0 -

However, they've always wanted to post them. Never wanted it to do it there and then without charging.0 -
The whole point of the statement/ bill is that it has been posted to that address.
Rather than being stuck in the 19th century it is to impersonate check the individual to ensure they do actually reside at the address.
Many banks do not accept branch stamped statements as this defeats the point of the object as do online printouts.
When switching to paperless its always worth leaving one on paper statements for this problem.0 -

NatWest have a facility in the online banking to order a statement by post for ID purposes, even if you have opted out of paper statements. This is free.
Most banks wont accept home-printed statements for ID purposes, though some will.0 -
With Barclays even if you only have online statements they send out a summary once a year, worth hanging on to just for ID purposes. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0
