3 Mobile - Not sure if they subscribed me to a pay service without asking.

I received a likely suspect sounding text message earlier saying the following:

**(Please don't actually go to the URL as I'm still not sure it's safe)**
"U are subscribed to 3 Score Centre for £0.99 per month. To manage your account go to hxxp://mobile.three.co.uk/947/livesportuk/threewap/myaccount.jsp"
I'd not subscribed to 3 Score Centre, nor did I want to. The message came from something called "Flexion", but there were no phone number details attached with the message.

I assumed it was a spam/phishing message, but just to check I wasn't being billed for something erroneously I contacted Three Customer Service. They confirmed nothing was being added to my bill and that I could ignore the message.

However, when I checked out what 3 Score Centre was on "Planet 3" it appears that I had actually been subscribed to it without my knowledge - at a charge of 99p per month.

So I unsubscribed, obviously.

Calling back Three Customer Service, they informed me that Planet 3 services weren't handled by them so they couldn't do anything about it but that as I'd unsubscribed I wouldn't be charged.

To me, it seems as though they've subscribed me to a service I didn't ask for...hoping that I'd not check and keep paying.

Any thoughts?

  • I too have been charged by 3 Mobile for an unrequested service subscription. Unfortunately I didn't keep an eye on my bills and it has been going on for a year. I am in the process of trying to get this money back (a tiny sum but it's the principle isn't it?). I'm sure this qualifies as mis-selling in some way.
Apparently I signed up via the (compulsory) My3 App. I don't remember getting a text (maybe I thought it was spam too) and definitely no email. At least if you accidentally bought an app, you would notice it on your screen.....
  • Like both people above I too have been paying .99p a month for 3 Score Centre. An app / service I didn't, or never would have, requested. I hate all Sports!!! Dear only knows how long I have been ripped off from my Pay as you Go credit. Without itemised billing you can't see where your credit is being used. However since I changed to the 321 tariff it became obvious that at the beginning of every mth a chunk of my credit disappeared.
In June last year I got a text message from 'Flexion' about this with a URL link to my three.co.uk account where I could unsubscribe. I constantly tried to access this link but it constantly failed to open and I instead got an error message page. I rang Three's tech support on 333 and was told they couldn't help me.
This month I have monitored my phone usage very carefully so that when it dropped by a quid from one day to the next I knew I had been charged again. I spent hours trying to find this score centre app on my Windows 7 Nokia Lumia 610. Then I realised I couldn't even get the Planet 3 store on my phone. Their apps do not work on Windows Phones. Light bulb moment! I rang 333 again and asked again for the charges to stop. I explained its a Windows phone. After advice from his tech people the agent advised me to swap my sim into an Android phone! navigate to the Planet 3 Store and unsubscribe. After a lot of fiddling around I got my mini sim in the right position in my old Nokia phone and unsubscribed. Hooray!
Now I want to know how I can recover all those 99p s I have been robbed off? This might make for an interesting investigation for Martin Lewis to undertake.

I have just received the same text and haven't had a three mobile account for more than four years!!!!! Oops..... definitely needs some follow up as to whether this is just a spam text. I'm not sure whether I can even be getting charged this as I closed my three account more than four years ago....??
  • I also received this message today and it concerns me as they were recently trying to extort £27 from me I didn't owe even though I haven't been a customer of theirs for many years (and for good reason). Anything to do with this company bothers me as they have probably the worst customer service I have ever experienced and it's almost impossible to get any kind of truthful response from them when you have an issue. I actually had to repeatedly email the MD to get them to stop hassling me for this random £27 and even now I'm not convinced it won't magically reappear one day in the future.

So yes, if anyone does have advice regarding this new potential theft it would be greatly received.

Absolute nightmare of a company to deal with.
  • I just received this text. I had transferred my number from 3 to O2 years ago. Just spoke to a O2 customer service advisor. They were very helpful and have blocked the charge.
