Hi was considering this as part of my portofolio. I am aware it is a higher risk strategy but I was wondering if people here have this fund in their portofolio and also their views on which platform to use for this.
I have a vanguard fund in an ISA with HL already.

Is this an ETF? Do you have the HL page on it? I did a cursory search and it looks like an actively-managed fund with a relatively high TER...
I do have some emerging market coverage in my investment using BlackRock Emerging Markets Equity Tracker Class A Acc. Info - http://www.hl.co.uk/funds/fund-discounts,-prices--and--factsheets/search-results/B65W262
Mainly since the Blackrock one has a lower TER and is off an index. Also using HL at the moment here.0 -
It's an Investment Trust currently on around 8% discount to NAV. Has a very strong reputation based on the manager Mark Mobius. Other IT options are here - http://www.aicstats.co.uk/conventional/perf_share.asp?SectorKey=190&include=
EM's haven't been doing so well lately and MoneyWeek suggested holding a low % of these recently.
I currently hold TEM through Hargreaves Lansdown but any major fund supermarket will be equally fine afaik.
The fund has a 5-star rating from Morningstar but beware these are historical based assessments. The fund fact-sheet is available here http://www.fundslibrary.co.uk/FundsLibrary.DataRetrieval/Documents.aspx?type=sl.factsheet&docid=5d0ed76d-667b-40fb-8f58-3a9447412463&user=aic_docs_feed

Hi,
I have these as part of my shares ISA with fidelity online. I buy £200 per month (I once read about pound cost averaging and thought it sounded a good idea).
I should probably know more about these - however, please note my attitude to these shares as you may not feel the same.
I have chosen these and other "riskier" shares as part of an ISA long term shares strategy. I see it as money "I can afford to lose"
I have held them for years and intend to hold them for many more years to come.
I do not look at the share prices and maybe once a year I will check how they are doing and ponder over whether to change funds - I often don;t unless it's performing really badly.
I have been shocked year upon year how much my ISA shares have grown. My OH laughed at me in the beginning (when I could only afford £50 per month) he told me it was pointless buying shares like that.
Luckily I ignored him and did what I believed in. He started 2 years before me and he had a £3k lumpsum. 8 years on - I have around double of what he does.
My advice - remember these are riskier shares for a reason - the rewards may be higher - but you must be prepared to take the losses when/ if they come0 -
Thanks. The only issue I have with Mr Mobius is that he is likely to retire sooner rather than later.
I wonder how this fund compares to the aberdeen one.0 -

Here is a graph comparing the low cost BR tracker with the high TER Aberdeen EM fund. The BR fund hasnt been running long so this is the best we can do.0 -
Mobius could easily retire any day now but then so could the Aberdeen manager, would it make any difference? Investing on the basis of a 'star' manager always carries a risk they could retire at any age, look at William Littlewood for a good example of that. (granted he has come back but then he isn't doing so well this time around)
A key difference between these two funds is that one is an Investment Trust and the other an OEIC.
Your Vanguard fund may well have exposure to EM's already, it may be worthwhile checking the % of that and then working out how much EM exposure you feel happy with and then adding that amount in the form of a relevant holding. Also worthwhile considering may be ETF's, something like iShares MSCI Emerging Markets ETF (IEEM) http://www.hl.co.uk/shares/shares-search-results/i/ishares-plc-msci-emerging-markets
I have put these into Morningstar for you, also added Utilico but you may also like to look at First States offering in the OEIC arena. You are comparing an equity tracker with a Bond fund? Interesting.....
What does this have to do with TEM or even Aberdeen Emerging markets (which is soft closed afaik)?

I could have sworn the performance on TEM compared to the tracker was quite similar, although the Blackrock tracker only goes back three years. Plus, it has a much lower TER, so probably is a better-performing choice.
I've been wrong a few times tho.hehe

Orange = Aberdeen EM fund Acc
Yellow = TEMIT
Blue = BlackRock EM Tracker
So the BR Tracker has performed worst over that timescale, Aberdeen EM the best with TEMIT in between.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
