The reason hubbie got strong curry - apart from a mistake - is that he always moans that it is not spicy enough- as his eyes were practically rolling round in his head yesterday - I think that may have stopped the moans for a while! He reckons he has been sneezing ever since! I did not mean it - honest!

Is it possible to do any beef/sausage based dishes that don't require precooking? I just want something I can chuck in in the morning, go to school/work and then come home to it. I can't be faffed to start sealing meat and browning onions at 7am in the morning.

Or has anyone prepared the night before and left it on low all night and all day?

I think I once bothered with flouring the chicken and browning beforehand, that was obviously on my first attempt at slow cooking so I was keen and even followed a recipie!

Since then I cut up the vegies the night before when I'm doing tea and leave it with the tinned toms or stock overnight. The meat I cut up and leave in the fridge and add in the morning and turn it on. I also soak a broth mix (lentils, barley and peas) overnight and zap it in the microwave in the morning instead of boiling for 10 mins.

When I did sausage caserole in the oven without browning them first they did go a bit limp - the skin kind of peels off and my other half complained.

You could try taking the skins off the sausages and chopping them. You could do that the night before and just leave them in the fridge. Then you wouldn't get a floppy skin problem.

Just had a look at my cook book and it says that for the 1 step method make sure you put all the veggies in first and the meat on top. It will obviously take longer, but if you're out all day then prep the night before and bung in when you're making your brekkie.

Is there any place on the web where I can find out about the wattage of slow cookers? I've been Googling everywhere as Argos can stick this where the sun don't shine, I need something that I can keep on al day without it turning my meal to charcoal :(

What have you got Moggins? If you look on the base of yours, it should tell you. The big Morphy Richards ones everyone seems to be buying are 330 watts I think - I looked earlier.

Yeah, I've got one of the Morphy Richards ones too, what I'm looking for is where I can find a lower wattage one to replace it with, even if I have to pay out for another one it has to work out cheaper than ruining every meal.

Or rather than resorting to buying another why not buy a timer you can plug in so that you set the slowcooker to come on during the day and the food'll be ready for tea without being burnt.

Does it burn even when on low all day?

I'm going to try mine out tomorrow - either a curry or a beef goulash type thing. I'll let you know how I get on.
