As a seller, I leave feedback as soon as the buyer has paid.

I just say something like' Great buyer, fast payment, thank you' or something similar.

I always try and send a message to the buyer stating that their item is now posted and should be with them in X days. For some reason I've had a two low stars for communication (even though they were posted the same day as payment was made and they received their items within 2 days )

I don't think we can leave negative feedback for buyers anyway, so you might as well leave fb for them first

Can't think of anything smart to put here...

    Thanks for your reply.

I've left feedback and just said that they paid quickly and thanks.

Seems a bit silly just saying that they paid quickly though and it makes feedback a bit pointless if that's all there is to say! I didn't think of sending messages to say that things had been posted, as I marked the items as despatched and assumed that they'd see from there that I'd sent them. Maybe I'll message next time.

Oh well, for now though, I've done my best.

    :)

I haven't sold on ebay for ages but as a buyer, I always assume that the seller won't leave me feedback until I have left theirs. I'm always quite pleasantly surprised when a buyer leaves feedback just because I've paid quickly!

I always leave feedback for sellers, although it may not be on the day I receive the item but certainly within a week at most, of receiving it. I know that sellers rely on feedback to raise their profile, and that buyers rely on it for reassurance, it's a buyers responsibility to let others know of their experiences. And let's face it, everyone is quick to give feedback if the transaction doesn't go well!

Email the buyers as suggested by Paddy H, reminding them to leave feedback. And don't worry, your feedback will soon start to build up!

  • I think you are worrying to much. The vast majority of eBay sales go well.

I would just get on and list more items, by the time the new ones have sold, you will probably find that at least two of your previous buyers have left you feedback.

In my opinion, new sellers need the feedback more than the buyers do. Build up some sales feedback, then switch to leaving feedback after the buyer if that's what you want to do. Its your account you can run it which ever way you want to.

I have never been convinced about the leaving feedback second (for small sellers) myself, I always leave it when I get beck from the Post Office.
  • As a seller I always leave feedback as soon as I have posted the item along the lines of 'great buyer, your item was posted today' so the buyer knows exactly when their item was posted - I still get emails asking when it was posted though!

I find that on average 2 out of 3 buyers leave feedback in the end but it can take a while.

I can understand your frustration if your payments are on hold until feedback is received or the 21 days are up - but no news is good news!

As others have said Ebay is meant to be enjoyable - and the very few problems I have had over many years are far outweighed by the benefits!

Id send a polite message reminding them to 'Leave positive feedback when item received so you can return the same favour' .

Worst thing a seller can do. Asking for feedback is a big no-no - and often results in a negative for harrassment.

They will leave it when they are good and ready. The 21 day hold is between you and ebay - and nothing to do with the buyer.

You have left them feedback. If they are happy - most will return the favour in time.

I agree - sometimes if I am so-so about an item I don't bother leaving feedback, but if I was asked for feedback by the seller it just might push me towards a neutral or a low star...

I don't leave feedback for sellers than don't leave it 1st.

I bid, Usually its paid instantly. What reason would a buyer have not to leave feedback right away?

    Seller cannot leave negative anyway.

What reason would a buyer have not to leave feedback right away?

    Being busy? Forgetting?

When I first started on eBay I left feedback the second items arrived, and sat and thought up different ones for each buyer when I sold.

Now I buy regularly on ebay and rarely sell - but it's often 10 - 20 small items from the same seller, so it can get tedious sitting there doing it all for one person.

So I usually save it up and do it every couple of months at once. It doesn't mean I don't like the item, it's just when it's the 500 item you've bought, and you're doing other things - it's not a priority, but I'll do it eventually.
