Anyone used checkmyfile.com?

Hi All,

I had a bit of a disaster in 2008/9 with my finances and, as such, ended up (probably) with a very bad credit history. However, I kept one of my credit card accounts open with the hope of rebuilding my credit history. Last year, I thought I may be in with a chance - I'd been using my card for most purchases and paying it off in full for 2 years or so. So got my free credit reports from Experian etc. and closely cross-checked them for errors. No problems (and my credit history looked pretty good!). So I was a little disappointed when Tesco rejected my application, because I really wanted the Clubcard points card!

I now want to try again - because I want a credit card that has benefits - cashback, points, airmiles etc. I want to check my credit reports but I've already used the free trials and don't want to pay for the reports. checkmyfile.com are offering a 30 day free trial at the moment - but are they actually any good??

Or of course any other suggestions will be welcomed.

Thank you.

Tesco are very picky. Some other lenders are more lenient. Halifax/Bank of Scotland seem to be particularly generous at the moment.

    Perfect! Thank you. :)
  • You do realise that the scores you get from Experian etc have absolutely no relation to what the banks etc use right? So you may have a score of 900 but still get refused a card, loan etc.

Best bet is to get the £2 credit report from all 3 CRA's and check them for errors etc. If you have been turned down for the card it could be for many different reason. Just don't apply for a bunch of cards in a short period of time as that will affect your credit rating. If you do want a score for free though there is Noddle to consider.

if tesco refuse you, always apeal
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

I used CMF, it's pretty good. It's easy to cancel, too, which was my concern. Data from Experian is limited, but you do get your 'score' from them. From what I remember, data from Equifax and Call Credit is complete. I checked mine back in June.

However, ignore your 'score'. The most important aspect of your credit files is how you are managing - and have managed - existing and past credit.
