Have to agree with photome. If you want to pay full price (or non discounted) prices for everything, then it can be expensive. However, half the fun in going to Vegas is finding the bargains. Cost me $69 per night for 3 nights in a suite (upgraded for free, yeah) at Ballys and then the same price for a room at MGM. Bought show tickets at the half price booths, had discount coupons for the buffets.

We did see lots of coin operated slots downtown, can't remember which casino it was but it was up near the Plaza.

Yes, traffic is bad, but if you are travelling before 10am, you can do the strip in a few minutes and actually build up a bit of speed. After then, you just have to use the back roads, which is sometimes better to get into the casinos.

We're planning on travelling out with the bare minimum of clothes and filling up on clothes and trainers out there.

Sign up to the VIP club at Chelsea Premium outlets before you go, they're in Las Vegas. check out the offers and print off the coupons before you leave and you'll get even better bargains. http://www.premiumoutlets.com/

Last year we managed to pick up a 20% off total purchase at Timberland, that was after all the other discounts:D OH came out of the shop and his first comment was I feel like I ripped them off. That was at their store in Orlando.

we caught the scheduled Bus from MGM and i'm still not sure how it happened but the ticket/ tour guide gave us free tickets for the bus when he got our room number mixed up.

you get a discount book from the guide as well giving various discounts for differnet shops.

i got 2 pairs of Quicksilver jeans for about £20 each after vouchers ( about £75 in Marks and Sparks factory outlets in this country when i looked at some .)

2 Pairs of LEE jeans for £5 each ( reduced by 50% of RRP then Bogof offer and then 45% voucher discount on top !!)

and a great pair of Sketchers footwear for about £20 , again 50% of RRP , 25% voucher discount and then cashier then knocked a additional 5% off for keeping me waiting for 2mins .

$ weakness is also breaking records at the mo.....so must be some great shopping

    Hello Everyone

Thanks for all the replys to my original email, Vegas is as cheap or expensive as you want it, however, having grown up there, it has changed immensely in the last 3 years, they are still in the midst of a drought restriction, though from the casio's you would never know.

I can remember the buffets being $1, and yes I do understand it is inivitable that things will go up in price.

Yes, the imperial palace is still there, is starting to get aged though.

for those interested in the bargain shops there are two discount malls in Vegas, one called the Gallery, off of Warm Springs road and the other at the end of Las Vegas Blvd aka the Strip.

I personally was most disappointed with the traffic, but they will have to do something about that, as the next casino being built to replace the Stardust is suppose to have over 20000 rooms. imagine how many more cars will be on the road than!

Good luck and have a nice trip

Is there any electrical shops in the outlet malls as i fancy buying some gadgets while i'm there if they are cheap - mp3 player etc.?

Not sure about the outlet malls but maybe check out Best Buy (closest one to the strip is on Maryland Parkway just next to Boulevard Mall which isn't an outlet mall, but is worth a look). Best Buy is quite good value for electronics, CDs, DVDs, etc. I'm not sure what would qualify as 'cheap', but they are a lot less expensive than in the UK and you can usually get a nicer model as well...so less money and better electronics can never be a bad thing!

Primm is a good stop for the outlet mall as trets77 mentioned...and they have one of the (either) highest or fastest rollercoasters in the world there, too...plus the Bonnie and Clyde car...and three casinos...it's not Vegas, but it's a nice side trip, we think - we go every year.

As for concerns over things changing in Vegas...I first went in 1997, but then not again until 2001. We've been at least once a year since - I think 8 times in total and it's gotten cheaper for us as we make sure to join the players clubs and use the comps we earn and now we know about all the deals out there (like the ACG and LVA mentioned)...we haven't paid for a hotel for the past few trips which is nice, too! Our first few trips we didn't know about any of that stuff, paid full whack for everything...now we know better!

And on the ticket-in/ticket-out system where they have done away with the coins - I can see why some people don't like it...but for us, we prefer the new system as we can easily move around without hauling tons of coins with us...and you never have to wait for a hopper fill. :) But I know others who disagree and would have the coins back in an instant.

I really wish November would hurry up for us!
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
