LLoyds TSB - Fraud

Hello, I need some advice,

I went to my local branch last week to withdraw some money, the lady behind the counter said there was a fault with my 'Chip' in my card so she had to order me a new one, which I thought ok fair enough. I later went back into the branch to deposit some money back into my account and the chip worked fine.

Looking at my bank statement today, I have noticed a fraudulent transaction which apparently according to the bank has been done by the new card however using my current pin? how does that work when I dont have the replacement card that they claim to of sent me?

How can there be a transaction on the new card when it probably wasn't even made or generated in the system if it was only done that day.

Also the card that was faulty should have been cancelled on the spot before a new one was ordered and cut up in the branch.

When did the transaction take place, Also on the lloyds statement it shows the last 4 digits of the card used for a debt transaction, call them,.

So i think you need to post some more information.

OK. So old card replaced as damaged, so you can continue to use it. PIN will not have been changed, or readvised
New card will have been sent to your address.

Who lives at home with you. That may know your PIN.
What is the transaction? Atm or retailer?
Where is it in relation to where you live?

I went into branch on the 30th October, when the lady ordered me a new card...however on the 5th November a fraudulent transaction was made. I have not had the bank card come through the post LLoyds TSB are telling me someone in my household knows my pin? but no one knows my pin number at all. I'm the victim here and they are now telling me they will pay me the money back yet I would need to close my account with them?? as they believe this is not secure or something.

    I need some help?

I live at home with my Mom & Dad.

According to the bank fraud squad it was done as a branch withdrawal.

Op said card ordered last week. Often cards come out in 2-3 days.

No it will have been replaced as damaged, and would still be active for 30 days. Many retailer will still allow you to swipe and sign.
No point in leaving the OP without a card.

I didnt order a new pin, but the bank are saying its been done via pin, they cant advise me if its a new pin or my existing pin at the moment they are investigating.

they asked me if its found it is a family member if I would be willing to prosecute in court, but im sure its not a family member as why would my parents want to take an amount of £1500 is beyond me.

They claim they are going to look at cctv and log it with the police but like there going to do a fat lot.

I'm assuming that they have not refunded you. Then I would report it to the police as well.
£1500 over the counter on just card & pin. I would expect anything over your atm limit to require more ID.
So could be a breech of branch procedure here.....

If a new pin was ordered. Then your old one would not work.

  • Thats what I would assume a amount over the amount of say £500 should require more ID?

They have refunded me, before they refunded me they advised me they will be viewing cctv footage and asked me if I would go to court if its found its a family member as they seem to think either my mom or dad are responsible as they live in the same house.

They are also advising they may need to close my account with them as they believe my parents have my details.

What kind of nonsense is this?

Given that they will now have stopped and replaced your card as lost/stolen to stop further abuse. I would hope that this is now being delivered to the branch for you to pick up in person.

Not sure where closing the Acc comes from. Unless they feel that whoever has done this has more then the card.

Nice to see that they have refunded though. Although it will be pending investigation.
