vultures the lot of you and the administrator hasn't got the money for the staffs redundancy amazing that and the government's got to pay that out as well you think the staff going to have a nice christmas???
you should hang your heads in shame!
its like trying to grab clothes of a person thats just died while the body is still just warm.

It happens. Blame the economy, not the people who are looking to get a good deal on products like any normal person would. I'm sorry, what was the name and nature of this forum again, please do remind me; it was money saving, right?

Of course I'm concerned that the staff find new jobs, but just as I won't starve myself thinking that it will make a difference to hungry children in Africa, I won't think that my getting something I'd wanted or needed at a huge discount will mean somebody isn't going to eat this Christmas or find another job.

Horrible things happen to good people, and people lose jobs. It's happened to me before. But it's just the nature of life and working for any company. It's unfortunate, and horrible, but life goes on.

You're thinking about it all wrong. The more that gets sold the less the gov would need to pay. I feel for the people that lost their jobs but i'm not going to feel guilty about the government using the tax i've paid to fund their redundancy.

Its nothing like trying to grab clothes of a person thats just died. The post before sums this up better than i can.

Its called making the best of a bad situation, if families can save at xmas then at least some good is coming out of it.

Basil, you need to learn a little about how businesses work. Comet is closing because not enough people shopped there.

The administrators are winding the company up to try and get as much money for everything in the business so that it can be used to pay Staff wages, debts etc.

By people going to the shops and buying these items, they are helping the company, and the staff by putting money into the business that can be used to pay wages.

If no one had gone to the stores when they announced it was in administration, thn all the shops would have closed weeks ago and people would have lost their jobs weeks ago. It is only customers spending money that enables this.

Yes, the shops are closing, yes it is sad, but Basil, you are just wrong.

    Lecture over.

So people shouldn't buy from them? That's logical.

thanks for the lecture lawrie yes i do get how businesses work, comet has been bad last few years we all know this! point being when selling off the last few bits of tat this in no way in any shape or form will pay the redundancy money owed to thousands of former Comet workers totals £23.2m and will be paid by the government's Redundancy Payments Service (RPS) which will end up the rest of the uk paying.
especially when administrators Deloitte pay back some of the unsecured creditors before settling redundancy first imho staff should have been sorted first then creditors after that they seem to have used a government backup scheme first in there plans all along which is not how the scheme was set up to be used but deloitte have exploited this.

i suggest you a full read of this before passing comment with all the facts and figures.

and yes i don't think people should miss out on a bargain fair enough but there sales never where a sale to start with as they jacked up there prices to full rrp when administrators took control still be better if you let internet find best price imho because market will always give the best price, thats what killed comet it became a dinosaur in the end!

anyway my issue still remains going to a store on the last day when only the tat is left is the act of a vulture and i find it dis-tasteful and yes it seems people are having less and less morals and common decency but perhaps thats the way our society is going but it is not a good thing!
bit like the ambulance chasers after a car accident!

    basil

it bit like the newest idea from the government to allow quicker mass redundancies which comes into force in April changing from 90days notice to 45 days in order to help out businesses well done conservatives! 6 weeks and we can all be kicked out now wonderful!

Dont know about being vultures but i heard from the horses mouth that a lot of the good reductions were bought by the staff in my local store to be Ebayed.. well done to them.

But after your Vulture remark i hope you keep your thoughts about Christmass to yourself and let the rest of us enjoy the blatant commercial exploitation. :p

Oh the Tottenham Hale Store had been completely stripped by the Vultures by 10:30 and they only had stacks of blank printing paper.
