Between £100 - £150 a week and that's for 2 adults, 4 children, 1 dog, 3 cats and 2 chickens. We do the main shop at Asda, the local chinese grocery once a fortnight and butchers for the dogs food. Iceland once in a blue moon.

We cook nearly everything from scratch - once a week the kids have 'freezer food' so fish fingers/pizza/some kind of junk. I have no idea what 'normal' is but if you can afford it and aren't getting in debt then surely it is fine?

We shop weekly for two of us and pets. But I do stock up on offers when I can, especially for pet food.

Our spend can vary from £35 to £100 depending on what we need that week, what we stock up on and what we fancy!!

We work long hours but still cook everything from scratch, so fresh pasta is preferred for example as time is so short. We also love farm shops and will often spend a bit more to get something really special.

LOL! That's exactly what my daughter had! :rotfl: She loves it! And a whole one too, not a skimpy half. I do draw the line at the Mars Bars and Double Deckers.........

see I prefer the half pizza as the bit where the line is gets all crunchy as well ... I sometimes have two half pizzas yum yum ... Or a pizza crunch but they are too small :(

When we first started we would spend £150 on one shop and not have a single meal out of it, ha.
did that myself when a teenager, a whole weeks shopping and nothing to eat:rotfl:

We can afford to spend what we spend, but thats not to say that we have money to throw away, if I could be more efficient through any tips I would love to be.
go to the old style board and have a look at the recipes, you can always try a few and if not liked then you have not lost much

We are getting better though. So, do you guys shop weekly, monthly? Bi-Monthly?

only have room in my enormous kitchen with 3 freezers for a weeks worth of shopping at a time
mainly cos the fridge is taken up with the 30+ pints of milk we go through. (yes honest)

but really if you would like to save a bit and waste less food then old style is the place to go.
just use your head and if you don't like the main ingredients then change them for something you do like. or find another recipe

Weekly for us. Friday night or Saturday morning. We take a list but only to ensure we remember what we need and don't double up on anything. We don't stick rigidly to the list and if we see something on offer that we know we are going to use we'll buy it. Or, if we just see something we fancy we'll buy that too :)

We try to avoid having to buy extra during the week, but as I work close to a (hated) Asda store it is easy if I need to pick up a couple of bits and pieces.

I think the biggest expense for us is stuff for baking. I love to bake and if I need to top up the baking cupboard it can get very expensive. Shop bought cakes just aren't as nice as home made though.

I am really enjoying this thread; it is interesting to see what other people are spending :)

Phew, don't feel so bad now. Everyone usually gasps in horror when I say we get through at least 30 sometimes 36 pints of milk a week. I think they must bathe in it when I'm at work!

I think the record for one week and I truly thought they were throwing it down the sink was 42 pints in a week, I had to keep tripping off to tesco local for more bloody milk.:)
that was a couple summers ago

We are pensioners and 3 cats, we spend about £320 a month on all our food. believe me the cats have only the best.I to don't understand how some people can spend so little on food. we eat well but not lavishly and we do like our goodies. When i was younger and had 5 kid i had to economise and i lived on toast and Mars bars,(yes really, they were very cheap then.)The kids were always reasonably fed. I won't stint on my food now.

Shopping online at mysupermarket is good! You shop on the website and it tells you which supermarket is cheaper with a tally for Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys, Waitrose and Acado on the side of the screen and calculates it for you so you know you get the cheapest shop each time!!
