Please help 1st car boot 2moro on own with 2 kids

Please please help me with any advise/tips you can give me as I'm really panicing!!!

I'm doing a car boot sale for the 1st time 2moro on my own with 2 children (age 4 & 5). I've got a peugeot 306 and am going to have to fit me, 2 children with booster seats, 5 HUGE HUGE bags of stuff, 1 rabbit hutch, 2 bar stools, 1 fax machine and 2 boxed foot spas in it and I don't know how:confused: . I can't get the car until in the morning either so will have to load it all up then  .

The gates open at 6.30 but people don't start arriving until 8.30 so I was going to arrive for 7.30 to start setting up. But how do you set up? and how do you know how much you should sell things for

These are my plans so far:

1. Clothes - Have got 2 boxes from super market - I'm going to mark them up with 2 for a pound on adult clothes and 3 for a pound on kids.
2. Shoes - 3 pound a pair for adult and 2 pound a pair on kids?
3. Toys - 1.50?
4. 2 bar stools - 10 the pair?
5. foot spas - 7.50 each?
6. fax machine - 15?
7. rabbit hutch - 15?
8. take a tub for money

For everything apart from the clothes, I was thinking of putting on blankets laid out on the floor???

The kids.....I don't want to lose them

1. take plenty of food/drink bowls/cups with me
2. take colouring stuff/stencils
3. give them a job each - thought maybe putting 1 in charge of a small blanket each to sell with stuff on?

Please can any1 who's done a car boot give me their thoughts on all this.

Thx Jx

  • hi jet!!

I normally take a patio table with me but with that lot I doubt you will fit it in!

I normally have set prices in my mind for items but it kind of depends on the person looking at it, sometimes you just know they will pay a little more ;)

By the end of the day I normally write up big signs saying all items £1 or whatever

Oh and dont forget to take some change with you, its surprising how many people expect you to chane notes
finally debt free and want to keep it that way!!

    Hi
I think the most important thing is amusing the kids!! i won't take my 8 yr old cos i know he will get bored!!
Let them make a tent/den in back of car and provide plenty of treats!!(i know it's not good for them, but if it keeps them quiet what the hec!!!)
Also as you say let them take charge of some bit's and bob's (but this will only amuse them for a short while!)

    Take plenty of carrier bags.
Pack things so that you can just lift them out of the car easily and display quickly!!

Don't panic it will be fine.

    Just don't lose the kids!!!
Best of luck and make loads of money!!( i will be thinking of you tomorrow morning :rotfl: as i am doing my 2nd car boot this year (did one last week with my daughter who was home from uni and cleared 120.00 but have got loads left!!)
Keep your prices as they are cos you will be knocked down.

OMG I am doing a carboot tomorrow with my 1yr old daughter! I am dreading it and no !!!!!! wants to help me out lol

I am lucky I have packed the car already but forgotten carrier bags!

Your prices sound great, but I wouldn#t personally mark them up, if your potential buyer looks a bit wealthy then slightly higher the price you have in mind lol

With the kids - what about the one that sells the most items gets a little something at the end of it?

Try and get there as early as you can, I have a feeling tomorrow will be a sell out everywhere, and the later you arrive the less likely you are to get a pitch.

I have borrowed a wall paper table but in the past I have had things on the ground, or on a shower curtain if ground is damp!

    Have fun!

Oh and don't let someone pay you a tenner for a £1 item taking all your change

When you drive in, if there are people swarming around the car don't open up
and setup straight away. Sometimes it can be very intimidating and confusing trying to remember your prices when a dozen scavengers are rifling through your boot.

I generally park up and then sit in the car for 10 mins until
    the vultures move on.

    Hope this helps :)
