I'm looking for contact lenses now so will be going to an independant optometrist (don't fancy going to any of the large dispensing opticians for that - heard too many horror stories)

I'm sure independants can sort you out with far better quality glasses too but you'll pay a premium.

Of course it depends on technology. The first rule of shop keeping is having neat signs that are done on a computer and not hand done. Therefore, you use technology as an intrument of making things look better to achieve sales through more attractive signage and that signage then encourages the customer to buy what they they really don't want.

Yes of course. I was really thinking about the internet revolution and whether people are more likely to be seduced by online advertising rather than in-store advertising.

You think how many people end up following links to online shops when they do not want things truly.

But the internet does offer a lot more control to the customer as the retailer is less able make you buy extra stuff than if you go into a store. So if you go into Tesco for milk you will often think I will have some bread and some carrots too when you see them. But online you can not see this extra stuff so are less likely to have passion buys that you do not want.

Amazon is terrible for that! You select a book to buy and then it suggests another book to buy alongside it! And on and on it goes...!!!

I am more likely to buy more than intended if in an actual shop but I do find Amazon quite hard to resist. :o

A really good way to save money on books is if you go to your university book shop around the end of term or in the exam period there will be loads of books on clearence.

You can often pick a book up 1/2 price.

They do it with everything they sell online. Start with a toothbrush and end up with a hoover.

Very easy to do when you've had a few!

Thanks, I will do that. Our local bookshop seems to be over-priced most of the year and they don't give student discounts. It will be interesting to see what it's like in June.

Asked the SSFF what she thinks of me getting contacts and she says I am fine in specs. I would not really want her to feel bad about her specs if I started wearing contacts either.

Mind you, Phil, they do say it makes you go blind, so perhaps it has just rotted your specs instead...........

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)
