Could be to protect his bidders from receiving spam offers from rival sellers.0

I agree with danmanchester. It could be that they are fed up of spam, as some items attract a lot of emails with other sellers offering their own goods etc.
Most of the time i can use my buying id's with no problem, if i start bidding on small electrical items or in one case DVDs I get hit by other sellers pointing out their own auctions. I am fed up of reporting them all to ebay and whilst I would not make my id private as I think it can be seen as a problem, I wish ebay would actually take some notice of spam 'ask buyer a question' e mails.

DITTO..... And I've always wondered why EBay allow it?
After all, as a buyer, if I'm not bidding on a sellers items, why in god's name does EBay allow them to make contact with me?

I know that ebay limit the amount of questions that can be asked a day by new users, but I find that long time users are just as bad.
When I was doing my marathon DVD hunt I even got ask user a question emails offering me pirate copies! I just turn it all into ebay, there is a handy 'report this email as inappropriate contact' button, and I notice that a lot of the pirate sellers were NARUd, so maybe they just went too far.

Is it only me or do other people get annoyed that ebay allow people to hide the feedback? The reason for feedback is so that people can either feel safe of a seller/buyer or they can run a mile if they have really bad feedback. Why allow users to cover their feedback up?!?!?
Ebay do have some strange ways so dealing with things.
The User ID kept private can be silly aswell because of course you can recieve spam but you could also recieve some bargains! Just like having an email address, you are going to get idiots spamming you.

But if you hide your feedback all you hide is the comments, the actual percentage is still there so I can't see the point. It just makes a person look dodgy.
In reality they have probably just been buying naughty things and don't want their workmates to know.
