iPhone 5 worth the upgrade?
I'm on a rolling month long contract with Tesco mobile 750 mins 5000 texts and 1gb data with my iphone 4. Tesco offered me a 24m 1500 min contract with 5000 texts and 2gb with an iphone5 costing £250 handset for £25pm.
I was also offered a sim only deal worth 1000 mins 5000 texts and 2gb on a rolling monthly contract if I wanted to keep my current iphone 4.
Is the upgrade worth it? Tesco say its an offer that beats what a new Tesco customer would be offered.
Worth spending the £250? Not sure if Tesco would take the iPhone 4 in cash.

An obvious question: how many minutes do you actually need? How much data?
Do you actually use your 750 minutes, so that it's worth paying for 1000 or even 1500?0 -
Very true ... I'm using 600 odd mins but tend to discipline use of the mobile and use work phone as well for personal calls so I do t really need anything more than 750. Think I've answered my own question lol0

In this case 1200m+1Gb are available at Virgin (EE) for 1x£12. What's the point in paying twice as much?0

TCO is £850 over the 2 years.
Three do 500 Mins, 5000 Texts, All you can eat data - £34 per month and a £79 upfront cost. TCO is £895
O2 do unlimited mins/texts 1gb data - £26 per month, £250 handset cost, TCO = £874
It isn't a bad deal, that up front cost is high, but the lower monthly payments make up for it.
The other way to do it is buy the phone £529, plus then choose a cheap monthly rolling contract, like the Virgin one above, that give £817 as a TCO if you kept the phone 2 years.

Personally, I wouldn't. I don't think the iPhone 5 is much better than the 4. Most of the changes are software which you can get on the 4 anyway, so the question is whether you want to spend £250 for a slightly taller phone. How much does the current Tesco contract cost per month?0

Having actually upgraded from a 4 to 5, the upgrade IS worth it, but less so if you have the 4S. The increase in screen size is superb, as is the new camera - both of which I appreciate every time I use it. The processor too is very fast, considerably so - so it is more than a cosmetic upgrade for vanity!0

It's closer to £500 in fact if the OP doesn't need 1500m and 2Gb. However, selling the old 4S can significantly reduce the actual cost of upgrading.malcumms7898 wrote: »...so the question is whether you want to spend £250 for a slightly taller phone....0 -
Thanks to all for replies so far. My current sim only is for 750mins at £22 pm but Tesco can offer 1000mins for £17.50 plus 2gb data and 5000 texts. Tempting just to get the sim only and keep e iPhone 4 but they are calling me on Thursday -will tell them £250 is too much for up front cost can they reduce to £200 and I'll take a hitbn texts which don't exceed 400 pm.
iPhone 5 is tempting but I hear also 5s will be here in six months!0 -

increase in size is superb?? its only added an extra row of icons and the cameras not that special.
i was thinking of selling mine when i wasnt very impressed then all the reports of bugs and fragile paint didnt give me much confidence so i sold it for an xperia T and im so glad i did and got out of the iphone cycle. its overpriced and overhyped. i now realise that there's a whole load of great phones available. i'll never get another one.0
