Refused joint bank account, No regular income

Hello,
Me and my partner have been trying to apply for a joint bank account but have recently been refused by HSBC.
and I wondered if there is anything I can do.
The problems seem to be this..
My partner is a student and I have just left my job to relocate and move in with her.
Therefore HSBC have said they can not open the account because I do not earn 500 pound a month.
My partner is supported by her parents and has regular money in her account a lot more than some 500 with statements to prove this. HSBC say student loans or parent loans are not regular income.
I have a few thousand in my current account but I don't have a job at the moment. so no regular income again.
We walked out and tried Barclay but did not even get through the door as soon as we mentioned student and no job.
Anyone know if there are banks out there that might accept us?

No I have never been refused a card at HSBC and I never asked for one atlough I think it also needs regular income to so would be the same problem?
I ended up speaking to the branch manager who called his op's manger who said no because no regluar income we cant accept.
I was told to come back when I find emplyment and earn more than 500 per month.0 -
Since there is no obvious reason why you can't apply for the Basic Bank account at HSBC, which doesn't have an income requirement. Perhaps simply try an alternative route to apply (request the brochure by post or phone the Freephone number).
You may still end up at the branch, but if so you'll have the application form in your hand pre-filled and ready to go (and a brochure with details of the account which will make no mention of any income requirement!).0 -
Why do you need a joint account?0

do you already have a current a/c ; if so why doesn't this meet your requirements?0

I could try and set up a current account first that would be something to think about.
We want a joint account to pay joint bills and expenses.0 -
Yes we both have current accounts one with Halifax and another Lloyds.0
