I have no idea what OIDS are but I just did a quick search and saw the words "powerful magnets"
Anything that contains an unshielded magnet will have the same effect on a crt tv screen including loudspeakers the green slodges should fade before too long so just keep the toy away from the tv0 -
You are right. Turned tv off let it cool and turned it on again all is well. Thank goodness.0

That happened to us also. DD played with hers for about 20 minutes before going over to the TV with them.
We did the same... paniced and thought of the expense a new TV would cost....
Turned it on the next morning and it was perfect again...
OIDZ are now in the 'never never land' of toys......... THE BIN!!!!!!!!! "Never save something for a special occasion. Every day in your life is a special occasion". _party_0 -
hehe, DD did that a few years ago with a monkey.... Only ours didnt come back. After a week of technicolour coronation Street we gave up and bought a new (bigger better!!) TV.
My father in law (permenant hoarder) took the old one away because "It may come in useful". He turned it on some 3 weeks later and it was fine. Ruddy thing is still working perfectly!!0 -
Sorry but can I please hijack this thread?
The green blotch thing caught my eye..My last TV had one on one part of the screen, it wasn't there when you first switche don but came onto the screen after a while. We replaced that tV and bought a new one, and exactly the same thing is happening!
We don't have oids or anything that I can think of that is magnetic but it seems very odd that two TVs completely different makes and ages have had this green blotch..could we have some rogue magnetism in the house or something?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Hiya sorry to butt in! To the poster who said they have got a green blob and have got nothing they know of that is magnetised... we had this once and found that it was the scart lead had come loose/or we had left it unplugged i cant remember exactly... but it was kinda picking something up and thats what was making the blob... we only figured this out when OH did the man thing of wriggling all the bits and bobs at the back of the TV!. Sorry for the appauling gramma and spelling... just come of night turn and am shattered!0

just noticing this thread and remembering the same thing happened to me a few years back, i have a B&O tv and all of a sudden the corner of the screen turned green-didn't have a clue as to what it could've been and i don't have any children.
Went to B&O who fixed it for approx £100 (if i remember rightly) and they told me that the magnet in speakers also cause this as as i have a pair of Avalon speakers on each side of my living room so it must've been when i moved the tv past the speakers that caused it.
I learned my expensive lesson and the tv is still working to date

I turned our tv on earlier and some lovely child had put the oids on top of it. As I switched on there was a stange clang of the oids so I promptly removed them. I'm not techy at all so had no idea they should not be on the tv, this might sound stupid but I never knew magnets could effect tvs. This evening a green splodge has occurred on the screen directly below where they were. I'm hoping it fades by morning.
I'm now astounded by the power of magnets. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0
