Hi, not sure this is the right place but here goes, I had an rbs royalties account, it hen moved in with my partner and we set up a joint account with halifax, I filled out a form to change my wages and dd's etc over to this joint account, now 3 to 4 years on I get a letter telling me I owe rbs £1235 as the account was never closed and have gone to o/d limit due to account changes and interest, halifax are investigating but not hopeful as they say all 3 parties are responsible, rbs will not £0 the account and told me to talk to wescot dpt management to discuss with them, I spoke to them and explained and they are now going back to rbs, has anybody ever had this and what can be done, many thanks in advance

    Hi there, thanks for posting.

If you're not happy with the way that things have been dealt with then you should first make a written complaint to the bank and explain what's happened and what you'd like them to do to sort things out.

If you're unhappy with the outcome of your complaint then the next step is to escalate this with the Financial Ombudsman.

This is an impartial body who'll look at both sides of the argument and decide who's at fault. You'd need to make a complaint through the bank first though, before taking it to the Ombudsman.

I'm sure you're not alone in this situation, have a dig around on the forums to see what's happened to other people in similar situations.

Last year I did an utility switch which didn't complete because my supplier offered price match plus a small discount.

The potential new supplier didn't send me a bill for the period that I was with them(maybe for two weeks only), they had already closed my online account so I couldn't do anything, and their customer service is so poor even after hours of holding, no one could help me, so I gave up and left it to that, but a year later they suddenly sent me a bill for £55!

I ignored their request for payment as I felt £55 for two weeks of energy supply is ridiculous, especially their customer service is so poor and it took them over a year to send me a bill!

After a few letters they now sent me a letter saying if I don't pay up they will take me to court with all these extra charges mounting to £300.

Part of me just want to ignore it because I don't think they would really do that over £55, but I do want some suggestion and advice on what options I have.

    Thanks

    Hi bubbles100,

If you were unhappy about the charges or the way you were treated then it might be a good idea to make a written complaint to the energy supplier and explain what’s happened and what you’d like them to do to sort things out.

If that doesn’t settle things then you can also get in touch with the Energy Ombudsman who deals with both sides of complaints to help resolve them.

I don’t think that ignoring a debt would be a good idea as often this can lead to further action. The debt could possibly get bigger, it could have a negative impact on your credit rating and it would probably be easier to resolve things through the official processes.

    Good luck! :)

    Hi

Looking for some advice, I am currently in a DAS in Scotland and have been for 2.5 years.

Before I entered it I had a car loan and this was excluded from the arrangement. The car is now needing too much done to it and I'm looking to change for something newer. I need it for work and family as I have 3 youngish kids who need dropped and picked up from schools.

If I were to apply for a new HP agreement and on the off chance I got it what would the implications be to the DAS I am currently in.

    thanks

  • Hi all,

Not used this site for some years as everything got sorted and I landed a very good job. Still have said job but one divorce later and I am in a helluva mess.

I own a property which I rented for a while and put on market back in April, the house is lovely and is where I lived up until divorce. The ex tenants trashed the place costing ££ to put right before selling and now we have had loads of viewings and one offer which fell through last week.
Still cannot understand why it isn't selling, new capets, neutral all through, new kitchen (nice one), garden and parking!

I live in another house now with my current partner and two children and pay half towards bills, mortgage etc but I am struggling every month to find my mortgage payment on the other property whilst it is selling.

I aim to walk away with £20k or there abouts after sellng leaving me with around 7K debt after paying everything off. Most of my loans are tied up with work who take before I get paid. At the moment I am robbing peter to pay paul and have nothing left every month, overdrafts etc and no money for Christmas which is coming quickly.

Can anyone suggest anything before I lose my house and my money? I have already missed two payments for the first time in 10 years of having the property and managed to scrape together last months to pay so only 2 payments behind.

I am now pretty desperate to say the least, thank you in advance.
  • Afternoon All!

Just done the Stepchange online review and the recommendation came out at 25 years to be debt free! Feeling a bit downhearted now!

Not really sure what my next move is. I don't want to sell the house (not much equity anyway), can't cut back much more. Guess is go bang time.......:(

    Any advice welcome.

Hi there, thank you for posting.

If you're considering applying for a new HP agreement, you would need to talk this over with the money advisor who set up your DAS. Any changes to your budget & therefore overall surplus need to be discussed before you can enter into any new finance agreement.

You might also be asked to undergo what’s known as a ‘fair & reasonable’ test by the AiB (Accountant in Bankruptcy), and any change to your budget has to be approved by them.

    Hope this helps

    Best regards
