Hello, we are off for a short break to Marrakech. Any advice on the best way to obtain spending money. Should I use a local ATM (I have a Santander Zero card), or buy before I go from a currency shop, or something else ?

Local ATM. If a CC, just cover your outstanding amount asap via online banking, to keep interest charges to a minimum..0

The Dirham is effectively a closed currency, and is pretty hard to get outside of Morocco. However they a geared up for this, and there are many foreign exchange bureaus in the arrivals hall at Marrakech. They stay open for all flights and are more or less a fixed rate, which was pretty good.0

If you have one of the debit cards that Martin reccommends for use abroad (Halifax clarity etc) then it is cheaper to use a cash machine and just change the minimum at the airport. The airport is still a higher rate0

We stayed in Marrakech and there are various currency bureaus in the souks, they have a better rate than the airport.0
