DLA and mobility car

  • Can he not just nominate another driver keep car and carry on ?
  • £54 a week is not a lot to buy, insure, and maintain a car (hence the motability scheme).

But if he only mainly does local journeys, it might be enough to pay for taxis.

If he needs to do a longer journey he can get a disabled person's rail card

And he is also entitled to a free bus card.

I do realise that this wouldn't give him the flexibility of a car, but it might keep him safer.

Also, sorry for pointing out the obvious, as he is over 65, if he were to lose his HRM DLA he wouldn't get it back as the benefit for over 65's is attendance allowance, and there is no mobility component with that. I am just pointing this out because even people on indefinite awards are occasionally subjected to random checks.

I for one, if I was the DWP, would be questioning how or why could a 69 year old guy who cannot walk be getting plastered in a pub? Surely, if you are that incapable of walking the last thing that you would want is to become'legless' through alcohol.

Methinks this is another example of the mobi scooter brigade sitting in a pub all day getting pi**ed thinking that they are immune to the laws governing motor vehicles.

At 69 he should know better!! If he hadn't have been stopped he was a lethal weapon!!
