    Possible cost saving option, but many home routers have a USB port and can be set up as a print server, so you can buy a normal wired printer and plug it into your router, then you'll be able to print from your laptop without having to plug anything in. This does, of course, depend on your router supporting this and being located in a convenient place. It can also be a bit fiddly to set up, but that is also true for wireless printers.

    The other thing is to research the costs of ink. The cheaper printers tend to make up for it with expensive ink that doesn't last long. If you do a lot of black and white printing then a laser printer may work out more cost effective in the long run. Brother do some nice ones.
