Hi
Our (old) printer has just about reached the end of its life, and we want to upgrade to get a wi-fi printer (so can easily print from our laptop without having to plug it in). It would be good if it could print and scan, but not essential.
Can anyone offer any advice on the best, good value wi-fi printer? I realise that the hidden cost is the cost of the cartridges, but it is hard (in my opinion) to get any useful information on this, unless anyone knows a good website.
Thanks all in advance
Simon

Are you likely to use compatibles?
Do you do a lot of printing?
Do you print photos?0 -
Thanks santer
Price and spec looks good for the Epsom.
We don't print lots to be honest (maybe 25 pages a week on average), and rarely print photos.
No problem with using compatibles if the quality is good and saves money.0 -
Check for better prices

Compatibles are around 20% of the cost of genuine inks.
Genuine inks have anti clog agents which compatibles may not have, so if using compatibles try to spread the printing evenly over the week, or print a nozzle check if left idle for a few days0 -
i have http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9371455.htm i only use epsom inks on offer at tesco at the moment http://www.tesco.com/direct/epson-t1295-black-colour-printer-ink-cartridge-multipack-contains-t1291-t1292-t1293-t1294-cartridges/209-8156.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=209-81560

Also, bear in mind, you should be able to get hold of any old network printer, and wire it into your router/switch and then share it across the network. If it's convenient to place the printer by the router, that maybe a cheaper option.
Similarly check you router doesn't have a USB socket on it, so that it can act as a printer server, and share the printer on the network itself. In which case, you can use any old printer you like really.0 -
If you decide to go for a wireless printer, I'd recommend setting a static IP address (or at least reserve the IP address in the router config pages) to prevent issues finding the printer on the network at a later date. How do I add a signature?0

epson dont make the inks in their cartridges, they use a third party ink manufacturer, who work with epson to produce their inks.
Now the same company produces other inks used in compatibles cartridges aswell, which are just as good as those made for epsons.
well same company, same machinery, same ingredients but different recipes for epson. which is why i personally use compatibles.
I printed up some pictures using compatibles nothing fancy family party, 4 years ago. pictures are still perfect. no discoloration, blurring, etc, that was on plan cheap paper.
Dont belive the hype that epson say about using compatibles in their printers, they are just ripping you off on the price.0 -

i know lots of people successfully use compatibles, i only tried once buying tesco compatibles for my previous epsom printer, couldn't get them to work. so wasted money.
i only use the printer a couple of times a week so i just stick with epsom.0 -
