How early is too early to pay CC bill?

I remember getting stung not too long ago paying my credit card too early, I thought I was being very organised paying it two weeks early, then my due date came and I got a call from my CC company. I later changed the bill date to be closer to my payday and it wasn’t an issue again.

I now have a Nationwide CC and paid off a fair amount on 31st October, the due date is 6th, is that too early to pay?

Thank you.

  • You probably got caught out the first time because you made a payment BEFORE the statement had been posted. So if you paid for example on the 1st October, and then a statement was produced on 5th October, you would still then have to make a payment for that statement as well as what you paid on 1st October. If you dont make another payment, then in the CC issuers eyes you have missed a payment.

If the due date is 6th, presuming you already have had a statement a few weeks ago, then no, the 31st would not be too early.

    Direct Debit is your friend.
  • Natwest seem to have a bigger window of payment than other cards. My statement gets produced on the 7th of the month and my DD goes out on the 1st of the month after. I usually get an email on the day that the statement is produced, and know it could be paid any day after that.
I seldom end up where I wanted to go, but almost always end up where I need to be

I always pay everything bar £5 on my statement date. The left over £5 is collected by DD.
  • Thanks everyone.

I just gave them a call during my lunch break and all is fine, their cut off is the 12th, so anything after that and before my due date of tomorrow (6th) is fine.
  • wow these companies sure are fussy, maybe they would change their minds if people STOP paying them at all, giving them a massive headache.

Asking people to make regular payments on money they owe is fussy?

    Wow.

Glad you got it sorted, OP. I sometimes pay the full amount before the due date but still get the minimum payment taken off by DD (puts me in credit).

Much prefer that than getting a "fine" :)

not really, you should keep a log of your statement date. Then time your payments so at least the minimum is paid per month by their monthly timing.

unless you're paying in full of course.
