Can we also have a "Motorists, what annoys you most about cyclists" thread?

Why would you ask that question here anyway?

    Why not?

He asked a question and was pointed in the right direction. (nearly) Everyones happy.
  • I don't understand the need to ask at all. It's a public forum - if you want a thread, just start one! There's already a search facility to see if one already exists that you can contribute to, and if there isn't just start one.

The asking of the question wasn't supposed to generate an answer, but to wind people up.
    It's only numbers.

I find most of the things people find irritating about other road users are in fact based upon the selfish attitude of the onlooker. It gives a gratifying sense of superiority to see one of your fellow road users make a mistake and an even greater one when you have the opportunity to point that mistake out to them, especially if that mistake has caused you an inconvenience.

The very best road users in all categories will make mistakes, it is how the other road users around them react to that mistake that decides whether it remains just a mistake or is escalated into something more dangerous.

The fact of the matter is that without asking why someone is cycling or driving in a certain manner you have no idea as to the reason for it and there is nearly always a reason. So the thing that irritates most you could infact have a logical reason behind it and in some cases may even be of benefit to you and the other road users.
Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p

I would add to that, and say that there are very few 'errors' which have not been made at least once by every experienced road user in the land. Luckily enough, mostly no damage is done.

But it feels very different when we do it ourselves, because we know why we did it, and we are likely to feel that the situation was under perfect control. When somebody else does it, it looks horrendous!
  • There's a cyclist locally who has taken to affixing a red light to both the front and back of their bike. It's rather confusing (to the point of being dangerous) when you are coming from the opposite direction as them on an unlit and almost pitch black cycle path!

Cyclists that ride on the right down shared use paths.

Cyclists that ride all in black with no lights down shared use paths

Cyclists that ride on the right all in black with no lights down shared use paths.

Cyclists that try to overtake me for fun just because I ride a hybrid in boots. I may be guilty of baiting the odd rider into a head-to-head, I'm sorry ;)

Baiting is good. And baiting Ninjas is even better.

Annoys me too, but if you're not a driver it's unlikely they would know they should be on the left. Does the cycle proficiency test cover this?

It also annoys me when there are cyclists riding abreast (on cycle/shared paths) who won't go single file when passing other cyclists (or peds) coming the opposite way. Means I have to get right over on the path in all the mud/dog dirt/glass etc. Inconsiderate morons.
