Cyclists - what irritates you most about other cyclists?

  • My regular commute includes a section of canal with 2 blind bridges (ie. you can't see if anything is coming the other way). I regularly see other cyclists take these bridges at full whack with seemingly no fear of what might be coming in the other direction, and it fills me with rage every time because I know one day one of these morons is going to send me carreering into the canal.

It's reached the stage now (2-fold increase in the number of cycle commuters over the past couple of years) where I have to come to a virtual standstill and tentatively peek round the corner to make sure it's safe.
    Out on blue six..
It's Chips and Jackets, Peas and Trousers.

When I am waiting at lights, and they come up from behind me and position themselves in front of me to get away first. So rude! One man came alongside me and put his wheel across mine so I couldn't get away before he did.
  • Two things have irritated me recently when I was out on my bike - and they are both about common courtesy to other road-users.

The cyclist coming towards you on the (well lit) cycle path with a searchlight mounted on his helmet so that it dazzles anyone he approaches. I can appreciate the need for good lights, but if you have a 1000+ lumens light please position it lower down so it doesn't dazzle.

The cyclist that overtakes you without ringing his bell or calling out - as a cyclist they should know that I can't hear them coming! Plus he overtook REALLY close - gave me a right surprise when he just appeared there....he's lucky I didn't wobble into him.

A fellow cyclist started yelling at me the other day - inane sexist stuff of the "go, baby! whoo" variety. I expect that nonsense from white van drivers and cars full of drunk teenagers but hadn't heard it from other cyclists before.

worse is they usually aren't the fastest,so you are left deciding whether to sit back or overtake.

OP, you only wear a helmet in bad weather.

I would love to know your reasons behind this
