Why? And is that when you're cycling, driving or doing something else?

But why does it matter to you?

If there is a car coming - don't overtake.
If you are not sure if a car is coming or not - don't overtake.

If you are sure there is no car coming then you have the whole of the other carriageway so why complain?

It annoys those drivers who want to 'hope for the best' but want to cut in close should something come along!
But hey, you should be ok - you have a ton of metal around you.

When my wife and i used to go out cycling we'd ride abreast but as soon as a car came up behind, regardless of roadwidth, we'd drop into single-file. It's courteous, shows consideration to other road-users and damned sensible! I just don't understand the sick mentality of some cyclists who go out of their way to antagonise car drivers. Perhaps they think it's moral payback time but there's only one winner if the car hits you. Might make you feel better I suppose when/if you wake up in hospital that you "really showed that driver"

cycling home really fast, heavy breathing mouth open and all, the cyclist ahead of me i was just about to over take spits and you probably dont want to know the rest of the story
  • Grumpy looks or no smiles :D lol. As bad as that may sound, I tend to nod or smile or start a convo if a cyclist decides to come past me. Some just totally fail to acknowledge a 'hello' and whizz past.

Riding 2 abreast when in a group makes being overtaken safer. A vehicle can pass the whole group much quicker than a long, strung out single line. This means that there's less chance of the driver misjudging the gap and dangerously cutting into the group as oncoming vehicles approach.
    It's only numbers.
