[*]Adults in full gear cycling on the pavement. To me it undermines our position as road users, the more people that do it the more motorists who take the opinion we don't deserve to use the roads. Plus it's bloody dangerous.

I am guilty of this..i am not a confident road cyclist and the sections of road i would have to use to get to work are EXTREMELY busy ones with a couple of big roundabouts. By the time i have got over my faffing of whether i should move or not (on a roundabout for instance) 10 minutes would have passed. I would have irate drivers behind me making me feel more stressed out & i would be panicked.
As it happens 75% of my journey is a cycle path located on the pavement (pavement is very wide & more than enough room for cyclists/pedestrians) which works for me.
The remaining journey i stay on the path and i am respectful of pedestrians (ie when there a few in front then i get off my bike & walk until everyone has moved on/i have clear path) because i do know that i shouldn't be on the pavement. I DO NOT bing my bell & start yelling at folk to move.
With regards to full cycle gear i wear a fluorescent yellow jacket, and have a couple of lights on the front of my bike and wear a helmet. This is so i am visible when its dark (oncoming bikes for example). There is nothing worse when its pitch back and some idiot is coming towards you with no lights on their bike & wearing dark clothes..last minute swerve.com

OK as someone who drives a car, rides a motorbike and rides a bike I have to say my biggest bugbear is the lack of a rearward observation when changing position in the road (a lot of car drivers as well). That quick look over the shoulder, it's called a 'lifesaver' in the motorbike world (for a damn good reason!!)
  • OP the following irratates me -

Other cyclists who wear dark clothes/have no lights on their bike when its dark.

Cyclists who think the road rules dont apply to them - for instance on my journey into work i cross a double (toucan) crossing, on more than one occasion i have pressed the lights. Lights have turned red so myself & pedestrians start to cross the road. Idiot cyclist ignores the red light and proceeds to cycle on through anyway meanwhile i am in the middle of the road & have to slam on my brakes nearly coming off..:mad:

My bad. Never seen one, didn't know they existed. I presume they're for cycle paths on pavements.
  • One of the things that irritates me sometimes, is the snobbery of some cyclists when they see me out on my 'allotment' bike complete with wicker basket on the back, and wearing wellies. One of them once remarked, 'You ride well for someone with a basket on' after I pursued him for four miles with a smile on my face after he'd overtaken me with a smirk. He shouldn't assumed that I was some old duffer, not an ex time-trialist!

I would happily have paid to see the look on his face :rotfl::rotfl:
