Netbook, Tablet or Laptop?

I am currently using an Acer aspire - I used to use a Laptop
I dropped my Acer last week and screen is playing up so am thinking of replacing it - any advice
I like the netbook but can't watch a movie or play a cd on it (maybe a bit old fashioned!)
My kids still use laptop - its huge!
Not sure about a tablet
Any words of wisdom - don't want to spend a lot of money but don't haven't checked out prices

What do you want to do with it as that will determine what is best for you.

  • We had a PC and Laptop and then we got our first iPad, now we have 3 tablets and the PC is in a box in the garage! Tablets have fantastic battery life and you will be on the Internet instantly, this is great for quick browsing or keeping in touch. It depends what you want to do with it of course, but I would encourage you to check out tablets and speak to people who use them.

Mostly on the net and emails and a bit of work but sometimes I get frustrated that I can't put a disc in my netbook to listen to a cd or watch a movie from disc if you know what i mean

it has 2 big chunky lines down it when I first switch it on - although they do go away - I was thinking that it was going to go any moment?

I dropped it from a height onto laminate floor and it fell on the corner of the netbook

  • I would be interested in the opinions on this matter too.

I currently use desk top pc mainly for swagbucks but as PC is out of the telly room, I would like something cheap and cheerful i could also do the swagbuck thing on while sat watching telly.

    Any recommendations?

I probably wouldnt need the option for cd/dvd

I too would be interested in the advice.

I have a 14yr old who wants either a tablet or laptop for Christmas. My WHOLE budget for her presents is £200, and haven't got much more I can add to that.

Obviously a laptop is going to be better for her for homework etc but tablets seem to be the way to go. So confused.

If you like the netbook and happy to still use one, then why not get another. As suggested can get a usb dvd re-writer.

What sort of work do you need to do.

Or if you do fancy the idea of a tablet, then you can now buy Samsung Smarthub DVD writer, it is wireless and aimed at Tablets or netbooks. Not tried it myself but looks promising.

Why not just fix the machine you have ???? Will be repaired for a fraction of the price of buying new... typical 8.9" screen for Acer Aspire One - around £30 and an hour of someone's time to change it :)

I still don't understand why people are willing to bin relatively cheap-fix laptops/netbooks etc instead of actually fixing them ???????
