Funny, but I always assumed gift cards, vouchers, etc had expiry dates.
  • Yes- I also think that all, or almost all, gift cards have expiry dates.
OP- I can't open the link but it would be interesting if the link contradicts the t&cs. There is a banner at the top of your gift card account which warns if any voucher is about to expire. However, its would be pretty cruel to lose £600 just because she didn't realise there was an expiry date. I hope Amazon get back to you with good news. In the meantime- they really haven't blatently stolen anything so perhaps you should look at the wording of your post. give them a chance. Good luck

There's no rule. Some never expire. Some expire after two years. Some one year. In the US I believe they all have to last a minimum of 5 years although that may vary by state. Still other's have odd rules; Next for example, expire after 2 years unless you either spend part of the balance or (bizarrely) just check what the balance is. The reason people seem to get caught out by Amazon is partly due to the fact that a lot of people assume the expiry relates to how long you have to redeem the voucher, not how long it'll last for after you redeem it.

The difference between gift cards in the UK and the US is due to tax differences, isn't it?

That's certainly what I was taught when studying tax and law.
