Maybe, then, if Amazon refuse to allow the OP's girlfriend to redeem her vouchers on the grounds that they have 'expired' then the OP could file a case through money claim online and we might start to get the beginnings of a test case.

Nope, that's referring to something different, i.e. the text of the email that is sent when someone buys a gift voucher. Once a voucher is redeemed, as I already correctly said, there is no way on the Amazon site to see when any part of a total gift certificate balance is due to expire.

yes, it does actually. Go into your account. Click on Gift Certificate Balance and the expiry dates are cleary typed in a box to the right of your screen. When you purchase something, the voucher which is closest to the expiry date is used first.

I can't insert a screenshot but my account clearly tells me when my certificates expire.

I, for one, think that you are typing nothing more than a pile of argumentative rubbish.

If that's true then it's a step forward because it certainly wasn't the case when I had this issue.

BTW I for one couldn't give the faintest toss what you think, just so we're clear.

All that's changed is that it's now possible to see when Amazon are intending to steal your money. Do you think that makes it OK?

There is no justification whatsoever for Amazon to expire gift vouchers. The fact that they don't do so in the US clearly demonstrates there's no technical or other issue that forces them to do so in the UK.

It's a scam pure & simple, designed to take money from anyone who for whatever reason doesn't spend their vouchers within a year.

Anyone who defends Amazon in this regard is either a moron or a troll. Or both.
  • Thanks for replying Fella. I was hoping you would.

I have a little update. My girlfriend just noticed something on her amazon account on the giftcards page. If you look at the screenshot below it clearly states the balance will never expire.

I am happy to take part in any rational discussion, but I'll leave you to do the name calling.

I have never known the expiry date not to be there. And I think your aggressive attitude and name calling is not in the spirit of this forum.

Interesting link OP! So Amazon directly contradict themselves?

No doubt all those people who defended Amazon on the grounds that "it said the vouchers will expire after a year so tough luck" will be rushing to apologise.

Anyway I hope you get your funds correctly reinstated, I don't like to see people scammed.

It certainly wasn't there when I had this issue, which Amazon themselves acknowledged at the time.

Regarding attitude, I'll respond however I like to people who are basically taking the p*ss as in post #15. I have no time for people who like to dish it out but can't take it. As for name calling, I fully stand by the fact that anyone who defends Amazon in the matter of them ripping off customers, is undoubtedly a troll or a moron. Some people seem to just get a kick leaping onto people's case & giving them a little lecture about how they should have read the small print etc in cases like these. Who cares whether Amazon say they're going to expire GC balances, that doesn't make it remotely OK. Would it be OK if I punched you in the face so long as I told you I was going to beforehand? Anyone with a functioning brain & the ability to tell the difference between right & wrong can see that Amazon are just ripping people off here, for no better reason than they can. GC balances on Amazon.co.uk should have no expiry same as on Amazon.com, it's as simple as that.
